I did a doily (in my Album) and didn't have enough thread to complete the doily. :furious: It looks OK as it is, but I would LOVE to finish it. One of the ladies commented on my picture and said I should ask here to see if anyone could help me come up with the rest of the thread. The circle on the thread say Gem (has an R in a circle, so I am assuming this is the Brand). It is 3 cord, Fast Color, Mercerized Cotton in 250 yard balls. The color # is 72 (found that on the bottom of the circle inside the ball) Any help would be great as I got this thread (along with a LOT of others) in a HUGE bag from a lady's estate because she knew I loved thread arts. Some of the balls had prices as low as $.25 (USD), still in the wrappers, so you can see how old some of the thread is!
Thanks for any help in advance! :flowers:

And what size thread is it? If it's a 3 cord, I wouldn't guess size 80, but probably 20 or 30.

Is there a similar thread in a complementary colour? Perhaps necessity could be the mother of inventive design...

Sorry, thought I had put that in the post. It is size 30 thread.

I don't have any other thread that is even close. I have made doilies before where I've run out of the main color and then used a complimentary color and, in my opinion they always look like "oops, she ran out of thread!" If I had done the center with a different color, then it would work, but I hate trying to cut the center out and re-doing it...I hate reverse tatting! :thmbdn: If I can't find the thread, I'll just leave it this size.
I sent some thread to a friend and I called her last night to see if, by chance, I sent her a ball of that thread...I told her if I did, I wanted to be an Indian Giver...lol

Do you have any name on the little tag inside of your ball-thread ?
Cebelia (from DMC), Flora, or Lizbeth or something else ? :flowers:

Nope, no other name. I think the brand name is Gem. Like I said, it came from a bag of thread from a lady's estate. All of the thread is very old...we are talking Vintage mostly....stuff that is no longer even on the market. Which is a real shame too as there are some really gorgeous colors!

I have that brand (found at a thrift shop) but not that color code. I'll keep an eye out for it though next time I'm at the thrift shop though!
