How do I add a bead in the center of a split ring when needle tatting? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,

Deb

Here's a method I use based on shuttle tatting technique: I'm doing it in my mind's eye -- haven't done it in awhile -- hope I've got it right:

Using the "ring and chain" method of tatting, tat half the ring usually stopping at the middle of the picot at the top of the ring.

Take the loop of thread you are holding in your hand (the loop you will run the tatting needle through to close the ring later) and pull a loop of this loop through the bead (use a crochet hook or one of those beading needles you slide a thread in and out of -- the eye of the needle is slotted open).

Run your tatting needle through the loop on the opposite side of the bead. This captures the bead in your tatting.

Finish tatting tatting the ring.

During the process of closing this ring, you need to do some thread arrangement: slide the loop that goes through the bead so that the bead is "bottomed out" at the start of the loop of thread you need to pull the needle through to close the ring. Close the ring pulling up the slack in this loop, positioning the bead as required.

I don't know if there is a demo on the net that shows this -- does anyone know of one?

Good luck!

Maybe this link will help. I thought of this tutorial the second I read bead in center, but to my dismay it is for a mock ring. However, it might still help by giving you an idea how to.
