Bobbin shuttles

Hello all. Maybe I'm a bit 'slow' but I don't quite get how to use a bobbin shuttle. The pop-a-bobbins are nice but I'm stumped by the 'screw' bobbin shuttles. How do you get it to release thread? Keep unscrewing?
