I used the clover from Emma Crewe's 34 heart pattern
http://web.archive.org/web/20021003134119/http://www.geocities.com/emmacrew/tatting/34hearts.html
The clover is the beginning of the pattern. It was Emma's suggestion in bottom part of instructions to use as a shamrock. I adjusted the pattern to 10 of each half of the ds instead of 7.
I made the 3 clovers and left thread lengths. Then made a chain with the thread lengths of each clover inside the ds of the chain. Spaced out working the clovers into the chain at different places as I worked the chain. Pulled chain so it curves into a ring and using a needle sewed the final ends into the beginning for the tie off. Hope this makes sense. I am afraid writing out instructions may not be my forte.
I used Lizbeth Christmas Green 20 and Lisbeth Christmas Green mix 40. I made some clovers in the 20 and some in the forty. I have 8 sets of three clovers to finish into rings to go on the cards.
My ring is not as smooth yet as I want it to be. However, since I have 7 more to make, it should get smoother with practice, I hope. I plan to put a small gold safety pin with each since I don't care for the bar pins Viv and I bought to use with our cause ribbons and haven't figured out a way to attach the Shamrock circle to the bobby pin like item we thought might work.
I will put these on cover of the cards I send out this week to friends and relatives.
Mercy
