Here are 2 things I made while at the hospital with Charlie:
4615Bookmark of my own design done in Lizbeth 20
4616Amusement Doily in Lizbeth 20 Carosel
Since most of the other things I have made while he was there were given away before I got pics of them. The doily above was given to my mom for Mother's Day and I made another just like it in Jelly Bean for my MIL. Still a few mistakes on this one but am slowly getting better at this.

I'm not generally a doily person, but I have made the Amusement doily and enjoyed the process and the product. It's a well crafted design.

I really, really like both of them.

I may try to reproduce your bookmark, I have done the "4 petal" one and I think this only improves it!

Congratulations on time well spent in the hospital. Both your Mom and MIL are fortunate to receive such special gifts. If there are mistakes in this doily, they are well masked. Excellent job.

They both look beautiful. Well done. Were the flowers in the bookmark hand-dyed?

Really nice! I like the colors in both. I can't see errors in either of them.

Oh I like the bookmark. one for me to try, it looks fast and lovely. I would leave off the tail for my own purposes (little fingers like to pull my bookmarks out of books if they have nice dangly tails!)

Such Pretty Pieces!! What's the name of the color used on the bookmark? I recognized the doily thread (Carousel or something like that...), but the bookmark thread is just gorgeous!

Beautiful work! You've almost got me talked into trying the doily... hehehe

The Amusement Doily is such a lovely pattern, isn't it? - and it looks great in Carousel. I've only tatted it in plain threads, so it's interesting to see how it turned out in a variegate.

Hi xstchntat, first i hope all is well in AZ:) Your tatting is just lovely, the Amusement doily is a must for any tatter to tat, you can add beads to this lovely flowing doily or just hang it in a picture frame on the wall (and stare away). thanks for sharing your tatting with us:)

Your bookmark design is lovely. I am using different bookmarks for teacher gifts this year. Carosel is one of my favorite varigateds and looks good in the doily.

Both are gorgeous! I must admit, though, that the bookmark nearly made me drool! That's just beautiful! It's seeing projects like that bookmark that make this newbie want to learn all that she can! ;-) I know that it's probably a very "simple" pattern, but it's still intimidating to me. *blushes* I LOVE the look of it, though! As soon as I figure out the two-colors-thing with my needle, I'll be staring at that for hours trying to figure it out. LOL.

Hopefully the moderator will approve the pattern in the member patterns section so you wont have to hurt your eyes.
second 2 colors with a needle is not hard just use the ball thread for chains and needle thread for rings. I know you can do it!

Thank you SO MUCH for your willingness to share the pattern and, more than anything, your encouragement and words o' wisdom! ;-) I'm going to have to play around... I realize that I have a big problem with figuring out how much string to leave for the project to be moved onto and, since I don't have the "bravery" to actually say something is complete, I have at least 6 inches of thread hanging off of everything I've tatted. The one time that I tried to do two colors, I actually cut Color#1 and just tatted the Color#2 over it in an attempt to link them together. What you said makes sense: One for chains and one for rings. I just have to figure out which colors I have the most of. LOL. I love playing around, but I don't want to waste the colors that I really like because I'm limited and, honestly, I'm actually tatting, most of the time, with thread that is probably not the right stuff. I have two balls of actual tatting thread that I purchased, but I'm using thicker stuff that was free from my Mom's crochet stock for me to learn with (She, in turn, wants me to teach her to tat). It's not incredibly thick, so it works, but none are labeled so I don't know size or anything.

I'm going to try what you said right now. :-) If it works, I owe you a BIG smooch --and a tatted smile. ;-)

THANK YOU!!

This is blowing my mind.... I obviously do not understand this about needle tatting yet. When you say needle thread, ? gosh I can't even wrap my head around it to ask. I thought needle tatting was directly off the ball so where is the needle thread coming from?

When you are doing Needle Tatting with 2 colors, you tie the two colors together and start tatting at the join of the colors. Color A is at first the Core Thread, while Color B is the Knot thread. Then you switch them, to get the 2 color effect and Color A becomes the Core Thread, while Color B becomes the Knot Thread. I hope that didnn't just confuse things further for you. :-)

Carolivy,
That actually makes sense. I will have to give it a try, so on this bookmark pattern the knot would be at the point where the tail is? xstchntat, you must have used shuttle on the one in the pic?

xstchntat

Yes the one in the pic was sdone on with a shuttle, but I did not start with a knot. With both the shuttle and the needle I just started by holding the 2 colors together and bagan tatting the ch 5 with the green over my fingers and the flower color on either the needle or shuttle. Just be careful when you start the first ring that you do not pull the thread through the stitches already made. Once the first stitch of the first ring is made they no longer move. I have done several of this pattern with both needle and shuttle and they look the same when finished. So far no one has been able to tell which I used to make them (except hubby who watches me make them LOL.)

I'm probably totally lame, but I was taught to tie a knot, (which irritates me since it is bulky) the idea of just holding the threads together is so simple it is novel! So when you do it though, are you using thread ends holding them together? itching to try all these things now!

carolivy

I tie my ends together to hold them. I'm not co-ordinated enough not to pull the one all the way out...lol Before I bury the ends though, I do UN-tie the knot. That way you don't have the bulk of the knot.

Yes, I just pinch them together. once the first knot is made with the ring they don't come apart. On patterns that start with a ring I hold just that thread and then when I come to the first chain then lay the new thread next to it and hold it, again after the first knot in the chain it won't go anywhere.
