A couple of weeks ago Jon sent me an email to let me know that I had won the giveaway on her blog! I was so excited, and I've beenwaiting and waiting for the parcel to get here. It's just arrived - a wet, gloomy morning, and suddenly the most beautiful pink doily has come to cheer it up:

4625

It's such a generous prize, isn't everything beautiful? I have a few balls of Olympus thread which Jon sent me earlier, and I like it very much - Jon, is the pink ball the same thread you used for the doily? The beads look really good, because they seem to have a slightly larger hole than the tiny seed beads I've been using. I remember having trouble with the long beaded picots in the Butterfly Bookmark from Jane Eborall's site because it was so hard to string the beads. I've been hunting for slightly larger ones since then, and am slowly adding to my collection.

I don't have a blog; which I think is rather a pity in the case of a giveaway win - but I know lots of people will see this here, and I want to thank Jon very very much for all the pleasure it has given me!

Maureen,
So glad to know you have received it. I was worried about the condition of the book by the time it reaches you because I couldn't find a suitable-sized cardbox to fit it in together with all the other things. The thread that I used for the doily is Altin Basak, both the solid and the variegated.
You can create a blog here in InTatters to get you started.

Congrats, Maureen. That's a great book, you're going to have such fun. BTW, a tip someone else gave me when I was having trouble with beads and holes too small for my hook: clip one end off of a beading needle and use that to thread the beads on the picot. I haven't tried it yet so if you do, let me know.

Well done Maureen and thanks to Jon for yet another generous gesture.
Big Eye needles are also fantastic for beading. The are like two very fine wires joined at the top and bottom with a wide "eye" space along their length in the middle. Very very good to use just very very hard to track when you lose them.....

Yeah, Liyarra. I have a packet of those needles. The packet gets lost in my sewing box and the needles get lost inside the packet. Because the needles are so flimsy, I always put them back in the original packet, to protect them from marauding sewing notions and scissors, which means the edges of the packet are all taped and retaped. It's kind of difficult to unstick the needles from the edges at times. I keep thinking I need to get myself one of those magnetic cases to store them in, but I never remember when I'm someplace where I actually stand a chance of finding them. All that said, they are just the ticket for many little things, so I'm willing to put up with the inconveniences.
