Please, can anyone explain to me the alligator join? Some visuals will help alot because I catch up faster with pictures and photos.

I know that I need to have one thread under the point where I want to utilise this join, and the other thread over it. When I try to do it that way, the join does not seem to lie flat. Do I need to do a lockstitch before and after it so that the stitches don't slide.

upon reading this I thought at first you were talking about the lock join. Do you have an illustration or a pattern part to share so that we can help investigate.

Sorry Coretta, I don't have any illustration or pattern to refer you to.
I want to understand this technique because I have a feeling that I may need to use it in a design that I am working on now.

Thank you for the link Coretta. I searched for previous threads on this topic but I guessed I didn't go back that far, :)

Jane Eborall has this technique listed on her pattern pages, under "Tips and Techniques".
