I had a nice lady ask me very nicely if I would do a video to go along with my beginner tatting instructable...so I made one of me making the flower motif. It's rough, but it shows what my tatting hands look like, warts and all.

A great video! Love the way you form a loop above your finger for the second half stitch - I'll have to try that too!
Very high speed too :thmbup:
:thmbup::thmbup:Great video!

Loved the video, can you post one in slow motion?:biggrin:
You make needle tatting look so elegant and graceful and do-able! Perhaps my sister could learn tatting this way. She can't make anything out of my shuttles, and I've given up trying to convince her to try again.

A video makers dilemma - speed. Challenge for the experienced tatter - doing things in slow motion.
Actually the first part is in slow motion.
Tips for the watcher: use the pause and revind options and look at the first part again and again and...

Thanks all! Yes slow motion was tragically hard to maintain. Of course I also wanted a short video so normal speed was best for that!

I have been practicing since seeing your video TotusMel and I have worked out the way you do it thanks to your video. I think I am now twice as fast with the needle because there is less finger movement. Still not as fast as you though!
Thanks again.

I've watched your video again and again. Your hands moves so quick and so elegant. I've never thought of doing needle tatting, but I've got to try it.

I must get blunter needles because I keep stabbing myself. You make it look so easy and bloodfree!:biggrin:

I had little scratches on the back of my finger until I saw the loop above your finger for the second half. DUH! I'm an idiot sometimes.:blush:

I love her movie! I like that it shows how to do the joins and so on. If you want to see how to do just a knot and how to do it slower you can see a right handed or left handed animation on my site. The direct links are Right handed needle knot (http://www.frontiernet.net/~tammyrodgers/ndl_knot.html) and Left handed needle knot (http://www.frontiernet.net/~tammyrodgers/ndlknotl.html).

Ha...most of the time it's blood free...there have been a few stabbings.

I think if one needle tats as fast as TotusMel :flowers: they must form calluses after a while so they don't draw blood anymore. :biggrin:
