Way back in the day our first exchanges tended to be bookmarks. It's been a while so I think it's high-time that we had another!

The idea of an exchange is that you will be given a partner, you then tat up the item and pop it into the post.

Applications close 25th April.
Partners will be sent to you on 26th April by Private Message.
Exchanges must be posted by no later than May 22nd.

A few common questions:

Who do I send to?
Depending on the whim of the organiser you either do a straight swap where the person you send an item to also sends you one, or you can do a random swap where the person you send to sends to someone else. Your partner's details will be sent to you by the organiser.

How many items do I need to send?
Just one per partner.

I'm a total beginner, can I participate?
Of course! As long as you can tat the item being exchanged you can participate. And remember that even the most experienced tatter started at the same place as you did.

Is there a time frame?
You will be given a post-by date by the organiser. As soon as you have posted your item it's a good idea to drop the organiser a note to let them know you've fulfilled that part of the exchange. It's also nice to let them know when you've received your item.

Do I have to send anything else?
No. Although some like to include a note! You are only obligated to complete the exchange itself.

What if something happens and I can't finish in time?
Let the organiser and your partner (if a straight swap) know. Life happens, but generally if we're aware it's no problem.

What patterns can I use?
You can use any existing pattern (check out the Pattern Library (http://www.intatters.com/library/), we'll be adding more and more bookmarks over then next week or two) or you can make up your own.

Pictures?
Yes please! If you can take a photo of your finished item and post it here we'd love to see it! That way you can share your exchange with all our members and we can all be insanely jealous of your lucky partner :)

Just a thought. I noted there are many first-time exchange tatters...BE SURE to follow through with your exchange pardner. It is really disappointing to get excited about an exchange and doing one's best; only, to never receive one back in an exchange. So, if you sign up ~ follow through. It doesn't matter if you are a new tatter or an expeienced tatter....it is the participation and sharing that counts.

This is very true... life sometimes gets in the way.... Notify Kersti of any Problem with meeting your obligation, so sad that you mailed your bookmark and wait and wait and do not get one back.

But do not take on more partners than you can handle. One is great to start with.... The bookmark exchange is a fun one.

...... .BE SURE to follow through with your exchange pardner. ............ It doesn't matter if you are a new tatter or an expeienced tatter....it is the participation and sharing that counts.

Now another thought, to be a usable bookmark, please do not put BEADS with in the body of work. If you want some beads use the on a tassel or any part of the bookmark that does not go between the pages. The beads dent and can make holes in the paper. They are lovely but not always useful as a marker.:flowers:

I agree with making sure you follow through with your exchange,we have a secret sister exchange at our church and when you don't get something in return after you have worked hard to do nice for your secret sis it is very disappointing. Hi Tattabugg! You will get a kick out of this; I wasn't able to make the Valentine Day get-together of our Guild; which is when our Secret Sis are revealed and new ones are exchanged. Well, since I was ill; DH took my reveal gift down for my Secret Sis...When they drew new names they DID send me a name; however, they forgot to put my name in...so this year I'm without a sister to receive from; but I lucked out and received our Pastor's wife as my Secret Sis to give to...which is fun. My Pastor is 'in on it' and gives me ideas and since she's color blind ~ color isn't an issue. LOL I'm having fun giving...but it seems strange that the table will not have any rememberances for me (and NO, I haven't told anyone about this slip up...for some reason its outside my comfort zone to do that).
This is our smile for the day. Bev :cool:

This is a straight swap exchange so your partner will be sending to you and you to him/her - no need for secrets :)

Okay I think I have figured out the basic stitch and have an inkling of how to read a pattern, so I am starting in earnest tomorrow on my bookmark. Oh man, my partner is getting a real newbies bookmark!! Feel sorry for her. Is it okay to put in some extra goodies to make up for the newbieness of mine? I like to always send some Billy Tea and Vegemite crackers and such. A little taste of Australia, so to speak. Maybe a TimTam in case the vegemite doesn't agree.

Yeah, the stuff makes me Snork, too!! Perfect word to describe it. I am not an Aussie, so I have heard you have to be born and raised on it! I sent my daughters some and they reported back that they thought it had gone off before they received it! LOL
It is okay, very thin with butter on toast and sometimes with a thin slice of cheese. My husband practically lives on it, but he's a crazy Aussie, so....

Perhaps you have time to make two, so that you can keep the first one. Not that it is wrong to give a complete newbie bookmark, it's just that I really appreciate the first pieces of tatting that I made. When I look at it I can see how much I really have improved and I have fond memories of learning to tat.

It's courageous of you to jump into it this way. I'm sure you will manage - and there is always help to get here. Good luck:lucky:

I received tattabug's (aka Barbara) exquisite heart bookmark and I love it! I find myself smiling and feeling so happy just looking at the beautiful rainbow of colors. I've been using it and carrying it around - it's gotten lot's of compliments and my co-workers were amazed at how small the thread and stitches were.

Thank you so much tattabug for the treasure. Now I'd better get busy and finish my bookmark for her and one for my second Partner!

Now I'm all done with the bookmark exchange. Both sent and recived the bookmarks.

I started making the bookmark a few days before we got our partner. I was planning on sending this bookmark, but my partner was not too fond of green so I decied to start another one.

I have received my two wonderful bookmarks...
Blue and white one is from di11man
It is adapted from a patten by Wanda S (tattridy) I like and so does my Husband... had to hide it from him

The blue with beads is from wikedtats, it a Nina Labin pattern.. fits over the corner of a page... very clever..... wikedtats also included some sequins and #12 crochet hook, she has wrapped the handle with thread for better grip. #12 is great for beads and fine thread joins.. Thanks it was a wonderful extra.:flowers::flowers:

One is a butterfly on a paperclip = great idea!! and the other is an adaptation of a Russian edging pattern - complete with onion rings!

I sent my bookmark on the last day of the exchange. I have not received any notice from my exchange partner that she received it nor have I received a bookmark from her.

I would like to publicly apologize to Karin aka snowflake77. She sent me a beautiful bookmark and several samples of thread in my favorite colors and has yet to receive anything from me. Due to circumstances I won't bore you with, although I finished her bookmark only a day or two late I have not yet been able to ship it. I expect to have use of my vehicle again within the next two weeks and my first mission will be to the post office. I thank Karin for her patience and apologize to her and the group for not being able to keep my commitment.

Skfuller and I both ended up with some stuff going on was going to make it difficult for us to complete on time--so we talked a bit and mutually agreed not to beat ourselves up over the dates (this is supposed to be fun, right?). I mailed mine a few weeks ago, and I've had confirmation that skfuller received it. I have not yet received mine, but she sent a message that she is working on it and will send it soon (no hurry, but I can't wait to see it!). Thanks!
