Lily is a brand of crochet cotton. From the looser twist, I would guess that it is a 3 ply cotton. From the sheen of the green, I would say it is mercerized, because unmercerized thread seldom looks this nice. How does it feel in your hand? smooth? even? Have you tried a few DS? Did they fight you or just behave properly?
A lot of crochet thread is suitable for tatting, especially vintage cottons. I would say that you have made a lucky find! I don't even know if Lily even makes thread anymore.
By all means, try tatting with this thread and report to us how you like it.

I have quite a bit of Lily crochet cotton and it tats up very nicely. Lucky find for you! Lily is still in production, but they no longer make thread. They just make yarn now. Mostly Sugar 'n Cream used for making dishrags and such.

Insatiable curiosity. I live my life as a 4 year old: "What is that?", "How does it work?", "What would happen if......", and the ever popular "What would happen if...?"

And if it were not for people like you, a lot of questions would never get answered. Thanks Judy.

I've received a few samples of Lily thread in various exchanges. I've also been lucky enough to have gotten a couple of small balls in various auctions I've won. It does have a wonderful hand and is a very good thread for tatting. Shannon has a truly great find! I'm GREEN with envy!
