Hi All,

I have been learning to Needle Tat recently. I thought I got the idea of how to do the Split CHAIN. However, last night I have done it 10 times and none of the times, it was correct. Here is what I am doing. Split Chain 6/6. I am making a little motif. Rings are 6-6 and chains are 6-6. In the last chain (the first chain is on the right side where I have to join) I do 6 stitches, turn the needle like a page so that the eye of the needle is on my left, unthread the needle and tat with the tail 6 stitches. Since the join part is still on my right, the get the needle in the original position, hook on to the join section and rethread the needle. I tried to pull through and the whole thing comes up as a jumbled mess. What am I doing wrong? Can someone please explain???

Thanks,
Sunela

Are you remembering to put your needle where it needs to go before you rethread your needle for the second 1/2 of the chain?

Here is the order I am doing.
Tat 6ds
Turn needle, unthread and Tat 6ds with the needle thread over the eye is the needle.
Turn needle, hook the eye where I want
Rethread the needle and pull the stitches through

The very first time when I did it while learning, it was fine. Now that I am doing on my own, i am sure I am doing something wrong.

Hi Sunela,
Go to You Tube. In the search box type: needle tatting - split chain and split ring (kinda). The video was made by shannoninlove. There are quite a few needle and shuttle tatting videos on You Tube. Hope this is helpful.

Thank you so much for the you tube link. I wonder how I missed it when I searched in YouTube. I saw lots of other needle tatting techniques and not this one. Thanks again.
