Just wondering---has anyone here invested in any of the antique bobbins --owned by Christine and David Springett--being auctioned off on eBay? It's quite a famous collection, with most of them pictured in "Success to the Lace Pillow."

I'd love to hear more about them from any of you---I don't even have the book yet, but am planning to get it soon.

I'm dying to get one of these bobbins, but most of them are going for well over $100 each. Historically, of course, I'm sure they're worth it, and how tempting if you can afford it----but alas, I can't! Not unless I sell something on eBay (which I may end up doing, if I decide to bid!)

Their bobbins are beautiful, but definitely not in my budget at these prices. I have four dozen spangled bobbins that I purchased from them in the 80s and 90s. While not antiques, they are lovely. The sad part is that I only use them to demonstrate. I prefer to use either Belgian or Cantu style bobbins for my projects.

When I started bobbin lace, I tried spangled bobbins and had fits with breaking threads and other misery, so I am a strictly plain bobbin type. I like the square bobbins best because I cannot abide rolling bobbins. So while I appreciate the Springett collection, my "wanter" is not making any "wanting" noises.
