In light of our exchange, I was looking through all of the awesome bookmark patterns that we have in our Library and I noticed that a lot of the pictures of the bookmarks had tassels. How do you make them look so full? :huh:I've seen methods where you use a piece of cardboard and wrap the thread around it like crazy, then tie it off. But how would you attach it to the bookmark? you guys make it look so pretty!!

Hi Alison!

I like to make them in 2 ways. One looks fuller than the other but they are both pretty.

In this one just make the threads and tie them to a chain or ring at the end of the bookmark.

This other I make a lock chain (one flipped, one unflipped), then an Onion Ring and in the second layer of the onion ring I make extra long picots. Then cut them. Pull the picot extra tight before cutting and they will not get out.

Hope this help.

Oh, yes! That second tassel is very interesting and would really be in keeping with the tatted body of the bookmark.

I've found a good tutorial for tassels here:

Wow, thanks for the great pictures of the tassles. I have done the first one forever with crochet and knitting and now tatting but the second one, the Peacock's tail is new to me. Thanks for the inspiration and thanks for showing this in such fine detail....

I love the peacock feather bookmark - thanks for posting the pattern. I'll never have time to read again with all this inspiration to keep learning to tat!

You can listen to books as you tat. If you can multi-task, that is.

But if I listen to the books I wouldn't use the beautiful bookmarks . . .

That's what display cases and exchanges are for. Actually, no one can or should tat all the time. I think you should still be able to find time for books.

You are absolutely correct! I just wish there were more hours in one day . . .
