View Full Version : GR 8 Shuttle
Has anyone got a GR 8 shuttle that they want to sell, preferably in Australia for payment by cheque or cash....... or from worldwide if you have Paypal.
I had one but it didnt work properly so I have sent it back to Randy and he is going to replace it ...I hope...but I would like another one.
Thanks in advance

Joy: What problem were you having? I have found that I can't ever get them to hold the tension when I adjust the length of thread from the shuttle to my work and this is a common problem with a known reason. If that's the problem a different one won't help. If it's a different problem maybe someone has some ideas to help you.
My problem was confirmed by 2 ladies at our Guild meeting who use these shuttles constantly and dont have a problem with theirs I tried them and they worked for me too.... so I took mine in to see what they could do with mine and they couldnt make it work either.....the screw would not hold it kept tightneing up....I sent an e-mail to Randy and then sent it off to him at his request...I am hoping to get a new one.
If my friends can get them to work to perfection then so can I....there must be a glitch with mine for it not to work......I would like another one just to see if I can make another one work....I have a feeling that it is something to do with the screw.....I have 3 of Edwin Clark's (England) Silent shuttles and they work great....same principle?

You say Known reason...what do you mean......I do know that there is a very fine margin regarding the screw maybe only 1/16th of a turn just as there is with Edwin's shuttles

I finally gave mine away because I never could get it to work properly. Of course I believe it was just me, but Randy was very nice & patient with me; I'm sure he'll fix or replace it with no hesitation. I saw one on ebay the other day, but I think it might have been from either them or Handy Hands, as it was priced about the same.

Joy: If you look at your silent tatters you will see it has a bit of wood between the bobbin and the screw on both sides. On the GR8 one side of the screw touches the bobbin. Based on that when the bobbin moves the screw will also move on the GR8 if not held just right. How the bobbin is placed (how the thread comes out of the shuttle) can alter if the screw tightens or loosens when you adjust the thread length.
With the Silent Tatter I can set the tension and forget it. Many folks have been unable to do that with the GR8. This is a complaint I have heard from many folks. That's one of the reasons they have the directions on how to use the shuttle on their web site.
I am glad to hear that other ladies in your group have ones that work, both for them and for you, and hope you can get one that works also.
Thanks for the explanation on the GR8's....Randy even sent me a short video on how he uses his and I have study it so often...any way he hasnt recieved mine that I sent to him as yet and is going away for several days...I just hope its not got lost in the post...I sent it on the 13th so normally it would be there...but with the Christmas rush its taking its time.
I can use the Silent Shuttle without a problem and it also has a tiny stop on one side that hold the screw in place

I use my GR-8 shuttles all the time and never have a problem with it. Joy tried it at guild the other day and also found it okay. Her one was really hard to tension and generally felt awkward.
Joy I am glad that Randy has offered to help you. I found dealing with him a pleasure and find his shuttles the same.
Hi Lyarra,
I do hope that Randy will exchange it...so far he hasn't got mine and. I posted it on the 13th ...he is going away for several days over Christmas so I am praying it wont go missing in the post....I really don't want that one back I would prefer a new one as I have tried so hard to get the original working.
