Is making a bookmark an easy beginner project for needle tatting?

When I started out I made bookmarks, smaller motifs & doilies, & about a bazillion butterflies (I have 2 or 3 patterns that I've done so often I can still do them by heart, even though it's been forever since I got sick of them!), hearts, & stars. As long as it's a simple pattern I always tried whatever struck my fancy at that moment. I wouldn't recommend starting out with something like a regular or large size doily, or anything with split rings or anything complicated in it =-)

Hi Newtatter,

Welcome to In Tatters!
Though I am not a needle tatter, I think bookmarks are easy and pleasant first projects. There are some very simple and pretty patterns out there. Or even to start, if you did not have a pattern, just a simple ring and chain with some picots would look pretty; make a short length and come back down the other side - voilą! And bookmarks are not only nice but useful.

Hope we see your first project soon.

Best wishes,
Frivole

I am not a needle tatter, but (depending on the pattern choice) I sure think so!

Here is a thread with some simple bookmark pattern suggestions: http://www.intatters.com/showthread.php?3924-Beginner-Pattern&highlight=simple+bookmark

Welcome to intatters and to the tatting world! I hope you have fun!

My Flower Bookmark (http://www.intatters.com/showthread.php?2112-Flower-Bookmark&highlight=flower+bookmark) is another easy one in the Members Pattern area.

My Easy Cross (http://www.intatters.com/showthread.php?3337-Easy-tatted-cross) pattern is also in the Members Pattern area with a soon to be posted variation(waiting for approval by the moderators).
