Can someone explain to me how you cover a cabone ring with tatting when you are a needle tatter?

I cover cabone rings in shuttle tatting, but thinking it through I believe needle tatting would work like this.

Thread the needle with enough thread to cover the cabone ring and work whatever comes after it. I am thinking that the ball thread does not have to be cut, since the continuing work after completing the stitches over the cabone ring starts at the end of the ring. (2 fewer ends to finish!)

With the needle thread, bring a loop up from back to front through the cabone ring and take the needle over the ring from back to front and through the loop, but don't completely tension the work, the loop should stay a little open.

Take a second loop frrom front to back through the cabone ring and take the needle over the ring from front to back and through the loop.

Tension the DS. I tension each half separately after both halves of the DS are formed but not tightened. Lifting the bar of the DS tightens the first half of the DS and removing the excess thread by tensioning on the needle thread completes the DS.

I don't needle tatt either, but Jon has a tutorial: http://tatsaway.blogspot.com/2009/09/wrap-stitch-round-plastic-ring-with.html
I followed her other tutorial for doing it with the shuttle to learn.

Hey Patty I think I finally understood myself how to do it. I have been trying for a long time. Thanks. Jon's tutorial is good but I was having trouble getting it to look right I think I missed the second half of the DS. I don't always do well with pictorial explanations.

I learned cover a carbon ring with the shuttle. Then I realised that it is the same technique as Split chain. After that I made my first split chain that looks nice and not like an old snake. I'm happy!!!!

Most places that have a craft section have them or they are also used called blind rings or craft rings. They are just small plastic rings. Walmart has them by the knitting supplies.

thanks for the link, the visual instructions look like they will do the trick, I find it difficult to visualise written instructions a lot of the time.
