Lovely. Are those beads in the centers? Buttons? And how were they attached?

It is beautiful. I was wondering what the stitch count is the for outer round/border of the pendant (maybe 14 and 10?)

What a pretty pendant. Did you do it all in one pass or did you cut and hide the ends on each flower section?

The interior is all single shuttle work/no chains, unless one were to add a single ds as you move from ring to ring. I couldn't figure out a way to do it. i'm currently in the middle of trying it out.

I was made 5 single flowers end combined them with picots
and of corse i need too cut and hide the ends on each ( i hate it)

Judy, what are you trying to do? I didn't try it yet (I must finish my bookmark :-/), but it seems to be easy - doesn't matter if you work it as 5 separate pieces or if you make it wit split rings..

Yes easy to do as 5 pieces. 12 ends to hide...Groan. If you use split rings on the outside large rings "A", you have to put rings on both sides of them as you go to the next one. A b A on the outside, and b A b to the inside. A split connects to the next A split, but the "b" rings?

It seems I need making my pendant from 6 repetetions, with 5 it won't be flat, so.. it isn't ideal, but I want to show that it is no problem make it in one pass (so only 2 ends for hiding)

Welcome heathquilter!

Do jump in and start, and ask any questions you need - you may be surprised at how soon you can make beautiful pieces - I know I was!

I guess I don't understand how you did the black edging.......

frakira

It is separate row containing only chains joined to tatted motifs. In the diagram there is no ds count for these chains, you will see during the tatting if it is ok or not. Is it clearer? Or what concrete do you need to explain?

It looks to me like the black edging is all chains, that are lock joined to the picots between the rings. The number of double stitches would be similar to the stitch count shown on the outer edge of the rings on the diagram, probably just 1 or 2 double stitches extra in each chain to make them fit, depending on your individual tension (I haven't made this pattern, so I'm just guessing). The lock join is also known as a "shuttle join" and is made by pulling a loop of the shuttle thread through the picot, putting the shuttle through, and tightening. This type of join locks the thread, and allows for the distinct curves of the outer chains.

It's a beautiful design!

Ok - thank you! That's what I assumed when I looked at the pattern, but I wanted to make sure because it looked to tight up against the previous row.

Gorgeous pendant! And, Lilium, thanks so much for sharing the pattern.

I'm wondering whether it would be better to do the smaller rings as the split rings, rather than the larger ones. Then any discontinuity in a variegated thread would be hopefully less conspicuous — right? I would also like to know how best to attach the beads, particularly the one in the middle.

I did small rings as split rings, but I tatted with one colour, so.. I think if you can choose small SR will be always better.

Center bead I added to the long picot on the first center ring (after the third ring join to the long picot with bead). Other beads was added in the same way, but I didn't use standard picot but thread between two rings. Teoretically you can add bead in this way anytime while tatting first half of motif, but in my fist try there wasn't bead holes "in the circle" and it wasn't so nice, so I suggest adding bead under top three rings in the motif.

Okay, so, for the bead in a flower, you leave some slack thread between two of the "petals", then pull that through the bead, and put a loop through when you tat the other side of the flower. I'm not sure what exactly is happening with the "top three rings", but I should give it a try, then I'll know. Thanks!

This pattern is very pretty and looks like it's quick to make. I will definitely be giving it a shot. Wish I had the purple thread. I'm just starting out with tatting so I haven't amassed a huge collection of threads yet, but knowing me, it won't be long. Thanks for sharing the pattern. I wonder how people go about starting to design their very first tatting pattern. Your pendant is inspiring.

Grace, pull that thread through the bead immediatelly after tatting ring before it and secure it with paperclip. When joining to this secured place you can twist the loop for the smallest space between rings.
Top three rings I thought three rings of flower on the perimeter of pendant.. I tried to draw it into my pendant (it is important having this adding of bead on the same place in each motif, it looks much better).

Thanks lots, Frakira, for the clear explanation and diagram! I had thought that one ought to join the bead to the petal on the opposite side of the flower, but now I see that, since it's the thread between the rings, you have the top three rings on one side of the join. And now I also understand better about the bead in the centre, too. Long picot from one petal to picot join between the two petals on the opposite side. Thanks again!
