 Why am I smiling? Because a distant cousin, and a fella at that, requested something 'tatty' from me ~ like a bookmark (he is a wordsmith/author and reader). I've never actually had anyone request a tatted piece. He wanted to know 'how much' one would be. . .but considering he's given me 1st editions of his work ~ I'm not asking for $$. It gave me so much joy just to be asked.

Have you ever been surprised by a tatting request?

I had someone ask me to tat some strips to add detail to curtains. Haven't started it yet, the exact measurements haven't been given to me, but I'm fairly sure it's gonna be long.

I had a very dear lady from church who was dying from a rare lung disease ask me to tat edgings on four handkerchiefs for the nurses who had taken care of her during her illness. I had to rush to get them done before she passed on, but I was able to accomplish it! She wrote me such a lovely letter and I have kept it as a reminder of her. She is one that is remembered as always doing for every one else and I was honored to do something special for her.

There was the friend of a friend who wanted me to tat a wedding necklace with letter "R's" in it, because both bride and groom have "R's" in their names. This reminds me - I have to go call my friend to find out how to contact her friend, so I can find out if this project is still on...will update later!

I recently designed a barefoot sandle inspired by totusmel and a doily and had not one, but three stores ask if they could sell them and then had 5 orders from other people! I am beside myself!! Same goes for a hair clip I made :D

Thank you for sharing your special tatting request. Yes, it would mean a great deal to both the lady and her oncology nurses (they work so hard and sometimes it's so thankless and heartbreaking). It's a great idea for me to remember; that would be a nice gift for my nurses ~ later on. hugs, B:thmbup:

The BURDA book has some nice 2 and 3" edgings that would be great for curtains; but, I'd charge for this request! B

Yes. My dad asked me to tat two dragons for him -- one burnt-orange and one black. He wants to put them on hats. His high-school mascot is a dragon and their colors are orange and black. Thanks, Anne for a wonderful pattern that so delights him.
That was as much a surprise to me as it was to my sister that he loves and wears the tie-dyed t-shirts, polo shirts, handkerchiefs, scrub pants -- and yes, even underwear -- that she makes for him.

Kind of like my male second cousin. He's decided he wants a hatband in lieu of a bookmark. And his faire lady is deciding what she wants (specifically NOT doileys, key fobs) LOL They sent me their favorite colors... So I guess the bookmark I have 1/2 finished (for him) will now go to someone else! LOL His hat is a denim, floppy western variety... I didn't expect such specifics.
On the other hand, it's nice when people know what they like...

The grat thing is that she realizes the work and the art involved in tatting. And she chose two creative tatters; to do, her flowers (Linda) and her Bridal Veil (Zena ~ The Sea of Dreams) I'm glad she has such good taste!
 can't wait to see the creations....hugs, Bev

This is a fun and interesting thread!
My mom just called me over the weekend to request a doily or two and a small tatted "something" to include in raffle items and mystery boxes for her quilt guild luncheon in December. Nothing too fancy, but pretty things for the ladies. All proceeds go to their local food shelf. (Thank heavens I have 4-5 months to work on something!)
