Winter Exchange

The dates on this have been adjusted so that those who may want to participate but dread the added pressure before the holidays could still take part (I hope). Here is the info. ** if the other thread goes up check there in case I forgot something.**

Send Antiquarian a PM subject “Winter Exchange” with the needed info by Nov 4th. Partners will go out within a few days after that depending on how long it takes me to get you all sorted out. * smiles * IF my inbox is "full" you can also send the info to linenleaf@gmail.com in a regular email.

INFO:

Name - real and screen
Mailing address
If you would like 1, 2, or 3 exchanges
Does your home have pets or smoking
Do you need a pet or smoke free exchange partner
If you have color preferences
Any other info I should know

Rules:

Have fun!
Include at least 1 tatted item
If including other things keep it to 1 or 2 tatting/lace making related items – shuttle, thread, beads, etc.
Include a note so your partner knows who sent it.
Items need to be received by January 7, 2012. That's roughly 4 weeks to tat and 4 to send. FYI - Most postal times range from 3 to 30 days depending on where it's going.

If you do not get your package by Jan. 7 send me a PM subject “not received” and we'll see what's up.

If we really need someone to "host"/ organize/ facilitate the exchange I'll gladly do it . . . Umm I'm not Admin though so . . . Do I need permission from the powers that are? Is there a "proper" way to go about this? *laugh* Just let me know folks.

Several years ago, on the old eTatters site, we did a "Secret Santa" exchange. You gave some info about what you like (colors, cocoa, tea, coffee, etc.) and were paired up with a mystery partner. It was lots of fun!

I would LOVE to participate in a Christmas exchange, whatever it's format may be! :santa:

Well, here are my suggestions:

Check with Kersti first, before proceeding!

It is late October, the hustle and bustle of the December holidays will soon be upon us. Perhaps to be more relaxed, delivery should be by the end of January. That could accommodate international mailing and the observances all around the world.

Not more than 2 recipients per participant.

Please state whether there are pets or smoking in the originating household and whether there are preferences about receiving items from households with pets or smoking.

Please send notices of failure to receive a swap to the organizer in a PM to the organizer.

When signing up, please have each participant send their real name and address in the format that is appropriate to their country's postal service. Also indicate if international recipients are acceptable to you.

When sending the swap, be sure to send a greeting to your recipient, but take it easy on the extras. I know it's fun to send a lot of stuff, but not everyone can afford to do so.

It's up to the organizer to decide if each member who signs up will be paired to send and receive with the same person or if each participant's sender and recipient will be different members.

Create a group to contain all the messaging about the holiday swap and have all the pictures of the swag in one place.

I agree on the information Patty has stated....

I would further stress no extras....... it does get out of hand.

You can make it one tatted item and card. If the tatted item is an original pattern it is nice to include a copy.
If from a book or on line pattern that information is nice also.....

Or a small tin that has things to tat with, ie, sample of your favorite thread, beads or buttons but limit the spending to about $5 US dollars.

Another thing to ask about is international mailing. This can be expensive for some people and they may not be about to pay the extra postage to mail to another country.

Any one can host and exchange, just get a okay from Kersti first.

Looking forward to it.

I would host it but my health is such right now that I cannot guarantee that I would make it through to the end. If the one that does organize would like some help with the rules that I used for the other exchanges that I did host just give me a hollor by PM and I will be happy to share.

Great Antiquarian! Sounds like a lot of fun.

I like the idea of allowing *some* extras, they can be super fun... and, there are extras that are super simple for those in the US (floss threaders come to mind) that are almost impossible to get for some of us, so it need not be expensive to be fun and useful...

I'm in Australia, and would be interested in being part of the exchange (have never done this before...but the only way to learn is to be involved)...perhaps if there are others in Australia we could be paired? would be easier on postage etc...but am happy to post to America/UK/Europe too. Also...don't have a huge range of thread locally unless I order from OS...so a card peice or small bookmark etc would be a good idea (I would be a bit hesitant to send the thread I use here...not as lovely as some I have seen online...I also can't seem to source orange here at the moment...anyway enough rambling)... Exchange sounds like a great idea :D

I don't think it matters. If you are a beginner and you are lucky to get a motif the size of a quarter done than that is perfect. It's about sharing not any kind of "competition" or uberproject. Do what you have time for and what you think your partner may like. Just have fun - NO STRESS *smiles*
