I've recently encountered two different magnetic systems that might work with tatting. I'm looking for experiences anyone might have with either method.
The first is a magnetic "NAME TAG" that is very strong (not for use with pacemakers); it will capture the outside tag along a bar. The name tag is glued to the outside bar. I was thinking the tatting could be glued to the bar.
The second is a package of magnets that look more like decorative buttons of different sizes. Tatting could be attached to the buttons, but chances are you'll have to modify the manufacturers decoration on the button.

My thought was that we could apply flowers, etc on jackets, blouses, etc., and you'd be able to remove the tatting before the garment was washed or cleaned, and quickly re-apply.

Jane Eborall has made some beautiful tatted brooches with magnets encased in the tatting. I love mine! No glue necessary!

No glue, no sewing, no problems with loose fabrics, or piercing delicate ones.

That sounds really exciting. I will have to look for these. I can see butterflies and flowers being done up as a brooch. Ooooo! Even combining them together!

My BF works at a 2nd Hand Store and brought me home an earring meant for the nose of someone who doesn't want to get it pierced....it has a very strong magnet that holds it in place. I don't see why you couldn't work a gem with the magnet on it like that into your brooch as long as the magnet didn't get covered. I was able to successfully put the magnet inside my shirt and hold the gem on with a bit of tatting (scraps) around it and it held fine.
