After viewing all the albums I noticed all the pretty and colorful threads being used. Where can I buy these hand-dyed threads?
Thanks in advance for everyone who posts a reply.

There are many people who sell HDT on Etsy.com. I beleive several members here have stores on etsy they sell thread through. I just search for tatting or hand died thread to find it. I actually just order 4 skeins from two different sellers and LOVE them

For a start try Yarnplayer (Marilee Rockley) and LadyShuttleMaker (Sherry Pence). I have purchased thread from both of them with no difficulties at all.

Hate to rob anyone of their business, but have you considered dyeing your own yarns? That's what I've been doing lately. I use MX dyes from ProChemical and Dye--they're super easy to mix up, the company has great customer support, and I can make any color of thread I want to--I just buy plain white cotton or linen (these dyes are for plant/cellulose fibers only). It really makes the whole process more enjoyable when you've dyed your own threads.

I love to dye my own. I'm out of soda ash, need to order some more so I can dye more thread. Then I just buy the standard aunt lydia brand of thread and have at it :)

I also get HDT from Pamela Meyers at Tatskool@blogspot.com. She has her own site for selling her threads. They are done with coats thread and I just love it because it is hard twist and tats up very well. The last piece I tatted with her thead didn't even need blocked! Bev
Pamela has a series called Rainbow Brite which comes in the varigate and solids to match.

Wow, unbelievable. I often wondered what the hand dyers used, so it's just normal cotton thread. I am guess it unravelled the ball and put it in to a skein for dyeing, just like when dyeing wool?

Well, they all do it a bit differently and use different threads as a base. If you would like to see some photos of Yarnplayer dying her threads, visit her blog. She's a Member of InTatters and is in the Community listing. Bev:biggrin:
