It's amazing how hard it is to find a local themed postcard around here! I've a couple more shops to try before I resort to making my own to send out :)

Is it necessary that postcards depict pictures of your country? Can one post handmade post cards? Any specific dimensions? Is it permissible to send across handmade postcards in envelopes? Just curious!
Kersti
04-09-2009, 08:31 AM
Can you really not buy postcards of India???? Even generic Indian postcards would be fascinating to those who have never been there. There's no requirement to hand-make your cards (don't want to scare off any newbies) but of course a handmade card is lovely if you cannot find normal postcards. Normal postcards are 6"x4"
madhur
04-09-2009, 10:52 AM
Thanks Kersti. Indigenous postcards are available in abundance here. Just thought the handmade would give a personal touch. Never mind. I'll look for printed postcards.
Kersti
04-09-2009, 04:49 PM
I think we all forget how much what is mundane to one is fascinating to another :)
Another tatting exchange will come around soon enough! (ideas always welcome)
Suggestion: If you cannot find local post cards how about sending a good photograph of a local place or item of interest with a little information about it printed on the back of the card? Just a thought....

I, for one, would be thrilled if I had a postcard of a Festival Elephant all done up for the Parade. We lived in a primarily East Indian Community in N. California and that's where I gained my love for the food, the Sari's and the lovely fabrics and embellishments. Also, many folks may not realize the differences in the flora and fauna of different regions. My East Indian friends loved Sutter County because it looked like their homeland (lots of rice grows in this area and orchards); but they also talked about going to the mountains to see the snow.
It is a fascinating country full of life, music and GOOD FOOD. LOL

Went out and bought my cards and am addressing them now. Will go out Monday as I have a box to mail and some correspondence. It's amazing that Silver City doesn't have any cards that really show the city; just the surrounding sites and countryside. I've yet to find a good card representing Silver City itself, I'm thinking of making my own in photo shop; taking my own views of the City, which has interesting architecture and historical buildings.
While I was buying cards, an unbelievable monsoon with thunder and near-by lightening was hitting all around the shop. I was so wet after I went to get the van, not moving fast on a cane, that I had to come home and dry my hair (good rainwater wash) and change sopping clothes. What an adventure! So these cards have some memory attached. LOL

Happy to report that I have posted my postcards today! It's been a long haul, with hospital stays and a vicious summer cold. Then, finding any postcards, much less something local was quite a challenge. But perseverance and a helpful husband who called all the hotels in 10 miles did finally locate some cards I was happy to send! One to Australia, one to New York! Yeah!!!!!!

Happy Dance! Madhur's postal card en envelope arrived today! A lovely photo of a monument I had not seen before in color, The India Gate with a lovely note on the back. Thank you so much. I'm enjoying looking at the stamps from different countries also. Bev

Happy Autumn everyone! My apologies for taking so long to get mine out, but September decided to be Medical Crisis Month here, and it seems like I've spent most of it in waiting rooms in three different states. Despite some fraught moments, everything seems to be turning out well and when I finally got home, it was to a stack of postcards waiting for me, and another stack waiting to go out. They all have now, and it was wonderful to come home to nice words from people in far-away places!

In general we fill in the form for Kersti ~ so she can match names and places and general information. WE sometimes exchange tatted pieces; for instance, we had a bookmark exchange. There is always a time limit and we let one another when we've received our exchange. The post card exchange, folks could pick the number of folks they wanted to exchange with (I had five). We have a lot of fun and Kersti thinks up different sorts of exchanges; and always welcomes new ideas. Bev in NM, USA

Thank you Linda for the interesting postcard and stamps of Fort Worth, Indiana. Night photos are so atmospheric. In my ignorance I'm afraid Fort Worth conjured up cowboys and wild west images.

Thank you Judy for the beautiful card of the "Saved Desert". Knowing it is special to you, makes it special to me. I have been watching the PBS specials about the National Parks and have enjoyed all the views of our country's diverse landscapes. Mary in NC

:sad:Monica, Aileen - as I haven't heard that you have received my postcards I must assume they have gotten lost in the mail. Though they may eventually show up I'm sending each of you another postcard - this time in envelopes! Maybe they'll get through that way. I'm sorry you have had to wait this long. Let's hope these don't take the same route!!

Ok - I'm finally back in action!
Crazy schedule, cranky computers and getting my yard cleaned up before winter has kept me away from all the "fun" stuff in life (like tatting).
Just want to let you all know that I've received postcards from ALL of my exchange partners. The world is such a beautiful place, and the post cards I received prove it!

Thank you so much Gloria.
