Hello!

I would like to practice split rings technique. This technique is new for me. Do you have any suggestions of patterns?

Thanks a lot!

Hi Beth,
Yes, the first patterns I used split rings for were Jane Eborral's sea horses: here is a picture of my work http://onemadtatter.wordpress.com/gallery-of-tatting-projects/attachment/52/ and here is a link to jane's patterns: http://www.e.n.e.btinternet.co.uk/
I really love split rings, they give another dimension to tatting
have fun!

just a long string of split rings... with the rings being 5-5/5-5 thats what i did to get split rings down.

If I remember rightly my practice would have been:

I made a long row (20 or so) of white split rings, (8|4-4.) then cut the threads and started a second row (4+4|4-4) in white and black, joining to the picots on the first row. Then a third, like the second but in reverse, so black and white. then a final row of white (4+4|8.).

I cut the threads at the ends so they were neat and even and use it as a bookmark. It's a lot of rings to do in one go, but you do end up with something useful. :)

As a pattern, it would be something like:

20x 8|4-4.
20x 4+4|4-4.
20x 4+4|4-4.
20x 4+4|8.

and the result looks something like this:

()()()()
()()()()
()()()()
()()()()
()()()()
()()()()
()()()()
()()()()
()()()()
()()()()
()()()()
()()()()
()()()()
()()()()
()()()()
()()()()
()()()()
()()()()
()()()()
()()()()

Thank you Fiona, and I like your sea horses! But first, I will do a long string of split rings, like Shannon and Adrian.

Well, thank you all! And happy tatting!

Beth :-)

A lovely little bookmark http://www.intatters.com/album.php?albumid=620&attachmentid=7566 that's a link to a pic in my album. A number of people here have done this and it's super easy.

SpR 1: 6/6
R each side: 4-2-2-4
SpR 4: 6/6
R each side: 5+5-2-2-5-5
Repeat, with the next small ring each side joining to the large ring, 4+2-2-4.

I've seen a pattern for a USA flag with all those red and white strips you would do as Adrian recommended.

I practiced split rings with these patterns: http://www.georgiaseitz.com/classes2001/rings/rings2.html. They are very easy, but pretty.

Thank you, Adrian Jones. That was the problem. I don't know why this happened. :-)
