Hi,Patrice here.I've been tatting for more than fifteen years. My husband makes signs for a living. One day he saw me tatting on a large piece of paper-because I was working on a dark colored thread-and my counters are black granite. He went to his shop and cut me a piece of sign board, that was white on one side and black on the other. Then he rounded the corners -so my thread wouldn't get caught. That was years ago-and he has since made me two more tatting boards of different sizes.
I was thinking-perhaps I'm not the only one who could use such a board.So-if any of you find a need for such a thing-I'm sure if you went to his website-and said that I sent you-He would be happy to make you a tatting board too-and I promise-he won't charge you any more than he paid for the board.Grossman vinyl graphics

What a wonderful idea. Thanks for sharing it.

The other thing you could do-is visit your local sign shop-and see if they have any scraps of sign board.I know it doesn't cost much to have a blank sign made.
I just love having my lace-portable.Sign board is very thin and very strong, and I can move it out of the way, when I need to.
Just a thought...Patrice

That was very sweet on your dear hubby's part! Unfortunately I simply can't tat on a table coz I've very nasty habbit of siting up in my bed with legs either crossed or straight against a pillow supported by the bed head board and do my tatting while watching (actually listening to most of the time) news on the telly.

I'm a little confused. How could you use a board to tat with? Is this a thing exclusive to needle tatting? I can't see how it would be of any use in shuttle tatting. Maybe I'm just clueless. LOL

I believe she uses the board on her lap when she tats. The contrast in color would help the threads show up better. I usually sit with a lap desk to tat. It's a powder blue, so works well with dark or light threads, and it holds my threads, beads, bits and bobs.
