A number of years ago, I found this tatted heart pictured on “Birgit’s Tatting” web site. I have recently written down the instructions. Birgit has given me permission to share my directions. When I learn to draw diagrams, I will share an amended version. This is the link to the PDF: http://freepdfhosting.com/3734468b46.pdf

The PDF is wonderful! Really pretty heart. But I wasn't able to see the other two attachments; perhaps you need to re-attach them?

Where does one find Birgit's other patterns? This one is lovely! Thanks for the instructions. I don't usually do hearts, but this one might change my mind.

I have done several of her patterns, but my favorite is the second variation of Simple Angel

PS: I was unable to reach either of the two attachments.

Well done, Beelizabeth! Your interpretation looks to be spot on. Thank you for taking the time to write out the instructions. I know how time consuming that can be.

I have re-attached the pictures. I hope everyone can see them now. They're the same ones as shown on the pattern.

Yes, now I can see them, both the thumbnail and the full-sized pictures. Thanks!

I tried your pattern and thank you. I don't do SCMR and modified to get the bottom. I used up a couple of shuttles an tried out a vintage GEMS pink in size 20 for the chains. This is a soft thread and Thread Heaven helped a LOT with all the retro tatting I did. Heart on left has rings of Lizbeth Marble size 20 and heart on right has rings of Lizbeth Butterfly Breeze size 20. My chains were so tight that after first clover I had to retro tatt and went to 4-5-5-5-5-4 on the outside chains

MercyPres- your hearts are beautiful. I find my SCMR more often turns out more like two chains than a ring-- whatever works. My chains work out rather loose so I have to tighten then a bit. I love the colors on the one done in Butterfly Breeze.

Here's one of my tricks. When I have a big pattern to do and I don't know how long to make the needle thread, I make it as big as I can without it tangling. Then, off I go. When I'm about 2/3 of the way through I look at how much needle thread I have left. If I have at least half left, I know I'll have plenty, so then every once in a while I'll make true rings using the needle thread, to use up SOME of it. I may do that at a ring following a chain. I don't knot after the chain because the next true ring will lock everything into place. Or if there is a cluster of four rings, I'd probably skip the knots after the first three, and make the fourth one a true ring, again locking the core thread for the clovers so that they stay the way I want them. Of course this trick only works if its all the same color.
