Hi,
Where can I find explanations step by step for tatting with different colors. I've found a video that shows for 2 colors using needle thread of one color and ball thread with another color :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZeAKIN1IoWw

but this video shows that we have to do 2 knots with the threads at the begin..., how to hide this knots ? Are there another methods ?

With this method (video) we can only make ring of color 1 and chain of color 2 ?
And if I want rings with different colors, how to do ?
How to tat with needle using three or more colors threads ?

Hoping you can help:smile:

I'm thinking (as I've never done this...too afaid) that you tie both colors together and tat with the color you want. The other color will become your core thread. Can anyone confirm or deny if this right? As for more than 2 colors....hmmm...I'll have to think on that. You could always cut the one color out and knot in another color, but that might show and take up a lot of time.

I'm lazy and a shuttle tatter, so I'm not sure what the difference is with needles (it's on my list to learn yet), but for me, I do it this way:

Star the first ring with the "Ring" color and do the first stitch. As you tat the second stitch, pull the tail thread through after the flip. Then when you switch to the ball thread for the chain, you do the same thing, tat the first stitch, tat the second stitch, pulling the tail thread through.

I'm also doing motifs, using the magic thread method that I just learned. For this, just like above, you are pulling an extra piece of thread through to hide the last threads in a motif. Others explain this far better than I could before my coffee.

(Shuttle Tatter) I don't knot them. I tat over tails . . .that is I tat my first ring over the tail end of the "chain" thread THEN if I feel it needs it I might tie a knot, but not often. I then hide the "shuttle" tail in the next ring*** I finish the Ring motifes and then use the chain for one of my "magic" thread loops for hiding the end threads.

***. . . IT REALLLLLLY depends on the pattern You have to figure out how to hide either 2 starting ends or the 2 starts and the 2 ends. It take a bit of planing a head.

I know it's shuttle tatting, but www.entrelanzaderas.blogspot.com (http://www.intatters.com/www.entrelanzaderas.blogspot.com) has lots and lots of video demo lesson from beginning to advanced techniques.

Here's a tat over tails video.

Here's another way, if you want to mix the colors but not wait till the chain or ring part. Its for Cro-Tatting but can be used for needle tatting, as the stitches are made the same way.

If you read through the post of my Flower Bookmark I have step by step of needle tatting with 2 colors with the ball still attached. It is linked in my signature and I am not sure of the post number.

Rachael, the link in your "signature " lines works just fine.
