I was at the Alexandra Palace Knitting and Stitching show last weekend (London England  ). First time I have been for several years. There is a stall there that does second-hand craft books and I was hoping they might have some tatting books and even more hopefully any of Mary Konior's books at a reasonable price.

I found three. Tatting with Visual Patterns, A Pattern Book of Tatting and Tatting in Lace. You have never seen books move so fast from shelf to checkout.

They still cost me £34 for all three, but I am not complaining as TWVP is regularly on Buy It Now for £35 ($55) on Ebay.

:cloud9: They are wonderful books. :cloud9:

Congratulations, Rachele, you got a great deal! The price of $55 on eBay is actually one of the lower ones. I have seen Mary Konior's books on Second Hand online bookstores trying to be sold for as high as over $200!!! It's ridiculous and I hope no one ever rewards them with buying at that price.

The books are lovely so you got a good deal there.

Nice find!! I just purchased Visual Patterns from handyhandstatting.com for $19.95. It's a soft cover rather than hard cover, but that's ok. I've seen the high priced ones on ebay as well. I'm thinking they must be first editions.

Hi Rachele ... an awesome deal! I lent my copy of TWVP along with Tatting Collage (Lindsay Rogers) to a work colleague who's new to tatting a few weeks back and when she returned them she told me she couldn't believe I had lent her such expensive books after she saw the price they were going for! I had no idea they had become so hard to come by.

Lucky you! I have one and keep checking Ebay where the prices are crazy high for the other two that I lust after! Congrats!

General Information: Tatting with Visual Patterns is available from Lacis, and HH (last time I checked) and some other tatting sites for around 20 dollars and shipping.

As others have said, ALWAYS check around and compare prices. I'm fortunate to have found all 4 of her books in 2007. One is a discarded copy from a lending library in the UK! It has damage at one corner, it's a hard back book, but nothing that keeps it from being in very good condition.
Congrats on your 'find'. Bev

Lucky enough to have all three plus a couple of duplicates courtesy of a caring male in the house who loves eBay and knows and supports my tatting addiction!! Unlucky to have left the red cover Tatting one at Guild 18 months or so ago and noone was honest enough to return it........

Your are very lucky.. her books are getting harder to find and the price is just going up... Keep them in fine shape and you many triple you money and be able to retire.

Seriously.. you can still find some on retail sites... but some on ebay are way over priced.:flowers:

www.abebooks.com (http://www.abebooks.com) is a great place to find some of the Konior books. I got 2 othem there - A Pattern Book of Tatting and Tatting Patterns - pretty reasonably. I have a soft copy of TWVP that I paid $20 for at either Lacis of Handy Hands

Got lots of other tatting at abe books too

I have loved Mary's designs for years. She would be so glad to know that her creations are still appreciated and used.

When I buy Mary's (and others) books, it is mostly because of what they brought to Tatting in an earlier time. I really honor these first ladies of tatting ~ and my Conner's books are in that category, also.

It is similar to the time I went to my friend, Alice's, yard sale before she moved into elder care (she was 90) ~ I picked up all the things SHE had treasured but could not take with her (like very personal gifts from her lady friends or special books). My daughter and I both loved Alice and we are the keepers of the Alice treasures! I feel that way about the tatting books from, Mary K., E. Nicholls others of that era.

I'm green with envy. Isn't it pathetic I can't boast of possessing even a single tatting book till date althought I've been tatting for over 30 decades now!
