I heard of this technique last year but I never got it. I repeatedly watched video after video and looked at diagrams of how it should be and to no avail, I just couldn't get it. Now this past week I was watching Karen Cabrera's cabone how to video and suddenly remembered that I read somewhere if one understand how to tat with cabone, one would know how to do split chains. So I paid extra attention to how she does it and tried it on my own and I did it! I finished a piece of project ...
Since I have been tatting at work, a few friends/coworkers was interested to learn tatting. I want to hit the iron while the iron is hot so to speak, I downloaded some instruction online and provided them size 10 threads I first bought couple years ago at my own beginning. My first pupil was able to flip with the help of using hemp twine and has since completed a butterfly and a flower pattern. Now she just have to move toward smaller threads. No pushing from me, she will make ...
Last Friday I got a day off from work and I went shopping at the antique store to see what I will find. I went throught the whole store and found a stack of 12 work basket magazines for $12. Since I have never read Work Basket Magazines I figure they would be good to have so I bought them. I found that in each of the magazine there is one tatting pattern. So far I found one butterfly, one heart, edging and doilies. I am pretty happy with my find and they will be ...
I have been making Lisa Trumble's rabbit since the start of this month. I have made huge rabbits with hemp twine that adorn the office doors and made small rabbits using size 10 pastel color thread for some coworkers. I feel like the rabbit factory tatting these rabbits out as fast as I can. So far I have made 14 in total. with 3 huge rabbits, 2 yarn ones, and 9 size 10 threads. It was fun to make and a great conversation topic for everyone who received a rabbit from me. ...
Don't ya just hate it that you thought you were doing great chugging along and getting to the end when you notice this big huge mistake that cannot be over looked? Well that just happened. I was working on Tatmom's cross lunch time when I noticed the mistake. Wasn't even sure when it actually occurred but there it is a total goof. Now I have to restart this cross from the beginning.....oh I am not tossing the bad one, I will get back to it and do retro-tatting and than ...
This morning at 6:45 am my BF woke me up to get ready to go to Monterey Bay Aquarium. You see, Monterey is about 100 miles away and they open at 9:30 am, he wants to make sure we are there when they open those doors. We stayed there till 12:30 after viewing all the tanks, they have several exhibit on seahorses, flamingo, and turtles. Does anyone know there are totally white and totally shocking orange flamingo not just the pink and white one we usually see? I really like the ...

Here we go again, we are going to LA again to attend my nephew's baptising on Saturday 11am or there about. which means getting up and leave at 3:30 or 4:00 am. Blah... This is a short stay trip because right on Sunday morning, we are going to get up and get out LA about 4 am again. I wonder how much tatting would I be able to fit in?
I made Jon's snowflake with the Celtic twist. Today I decide to starch it. except I grabbed the wrong can and sprayed fabric and foam adhesive all over it. At the time spraying it, I was thinking how come the starch is all gummed up that it is not watery and runny but gummy and sticky. I tried to blame on my bf but he isn't taking the blame of leaving his industrial strength adhesive right next to my starch. I am currently waiting for it to dry and see what I got. Hopefully, the ...
As a promise to myself, I was watching the TV yesterday while practicing cluny. It is getting better but how do one use it in a project? after my leaf are made, I got all these threads on both side. Sure I can wind up the shuttle side but what about the other side? Good thing I was using size 10 threads that I don't like (so no big loss for me to cut it off and toss) as I got lots of size 10 to practice with. I think maybe the patterns calls to make the cluny first than rest of ...
Yesterday was my 2nd time going to the GGL meeting. It was raining very hard visibility was low at times but the good thing that it was sporadic from place to place. During the meeting, PattD gave us a pop quiz of taking the ring apart. All of us passed the test. Then she went on to show us how to hide ends without magic thread, SSSR, and Cluny. SSSR- turns out when I tried myself I was not doing it wrong but I just didn't know what to do with the extra threads afterwards ...
I finally received my package from Joann. I got 2 books, one on celtic tatting and one on bookmarks. I also ordered some big eyed needles which I immidiatedly tear open the bag and used it on a piece of tatting that I have lots of ends to hide. It was easy to use as PattyD has promised. Thanks PattyD for the tip. The book on bookmarks will come in handy as I plan to work on some of the beautiful patterns as gifts this year. Celtic tatting looks very similar to Chinese knots to me. ...
I went to my first Golden Gate Lacers meeting and met PattyD and 4 others ladies at Jan's Art Studio in Fremont, CA. It was a sunny afternoon spent with a group of very friend and helpful ladies. Patty gave us the tatting class, took us through how to wind a shuttle properly, showing us the mystery of magic thread, how to do reverse work, and finally cleared my suspicion about whether I am doing SLT all along and not knowing that is what it is all about. The meeting was from 1:30 ...
That is what I asked my BF. I tatted this beaded flower earring pattern which I decide to use them as necklace for little girls by putting them on chain or string. I needed the glue to stiffen the finish product so that the petals can hold the beads stiffly and not flop around. His reply was? I donated to good cause. His neighbor kids come by to borrow glue so he saw mine and gave it away thinking since he don't need them no one would. Boy was I steamed but what can I do that ...
Ah! The long weekend is coming. I hope to get back on tatting the chrysanthemum still. Have started on another project it is a square star. I thought it looked intriguing. I will also be seeing couple friends in Sept that I have not seen for 22 years. I was thinking if I hurry, I can have some tatting done for them as gifts upon meeting. Of course, I have to decide what I want to do first as I don't want to make it too complicate then I will never get it done in time. ...
