  1. I should be tatting

I got "The Big Book of Tatting" from my library, and I'm working on one of the little doilies listed on the first page. I have a co worker who is retiring in December (she's put in 40 years of service) and I really want to tat something for her as a gift. December seems to be far off, but when it comes to making gifts, it's not all that far away.

So, I am working on this doily, but I am thinking I am going to make her a bookmark or two as she is an avid reader. (How can ...

  2. Tatting class

I went to the little sewing shop here in the town I live in to talk about signing up for their beginning knitting class that I heard they may be starting. I was told that they were looking for at least 6 people to sign up and she took my name and number as they had 4 (including me) and had a couple people interested.

I then saw some shuttles and we started talking about tatting. She said that they were talking to a few people about having a class for it. I was tickled! I truly hope ...

  3. Didn't get as far as I thought

I was hoping to start a doily this weekend. (I really want to start working on making them for Christmas gifts) But, I ended up going into work to make up some hours I'll be missing this coming week, staying far to long at my sister's watching a movie, having my nieces' birthday party to go to, and then having to come and do some cleaning in my house because it was horrible!

So since all that happened, my tatting project was put on hold. So for right now, I'll just keep practicing ...

  4. Oh the pain of it all

Monday night I took a tumble down my basement stairs and I've now got the bruises to prove it!

Anyway, I have done any real tatting as of the past few days. I have managed to make several of the medallions from Barbara Fosters learn to needle tat book though. I was thinking of making a doily out of the medallions, but not quite sure on the connecting part. Maybe I'll post that question on the forum boards.

Okay...off to finish my lunch and read a little ...
  5. Finally!

First off, I got my two books in the mail yesterday. Rebecca Jones' The complete book of tatting and Janet Carrol's Elegant tatting patterns. I am so excited to really get started with my tatting now.

And yes, I finally finished my first piece! It isn't perfect by any means, but it's mine and it's finished! I was going to post a picture of it, but discovered my camera battery is dead so I will get that posted after a while. (The piece I did was the flower pendant that TotusMel ...
  6. Throwing this out there

I haven't done any tatting in the past couple days because I just haven't. But then again I haven't done much of anything. I don't know, just been feeling lazy I guess. My boyfriend will be going out of state for about 10 days, so I'll have time to do it then.

Still waiting on my book from Amazon. I am hoping it'll come this week. (It's The Complete Book of Tatting: Everything You Wanted to Know but Couldn't Find Out About Shuttle Lace by Rebecca Jones in case you ...

  7. Do the shuttle...

So last night I tried shuttle tatting, and had no more luck with that than the needle tatting. The part I really didn't understand was the part about loosening the tension on the left had to transfer the thread properly. I'll have to keep working on that. I was using the Learn to Tat book and DVD by Janette Baker to start, and found it very easy to follow if only my left hand would ease up on that tension.

I have the book The Complete Book of Tatting: Everything You ...
  8. Can't win them all

I was at the last ring of the flower pendant and screwed something up that wasn't fixable. Oh well, this is totally a learning process, and I just have to take the good with the bad.

  9. Let the games, er, tatting, begin!

I've wanted to tat for about a year now, but never put any effort into until now. It is slow going, but I know I'll learn. I'm working on making the pendant that TotusMel put up on youtube. She makes it look so easy, but I still can't get it. I think I'm putting to much into. I just need to let it come on it's own time.

I put several colors of thread this past weekend at Michaels and have needles from when I first wanted to learn, but wasn't ready. It's really hard to ...
