This is my first attempt at Mary Konior's glass mat, in her book Tatting with Visual Patterns. It was a challenge for me. First problem, I just used some cheap white thread, not singed. And it even had a thick spot. Every time I had to undo a ring, it broke. And I made lots of errors in the pattern. It requires good concentration. But, please don't be discouraged, if you want to make it. I'm on muscle relaxers for my back and I always watch TV when I tat. All that, and I can't wait to make another one.

Hello Neall. It's very nice to meet you. I am from Olds, Ab. and have been frequenting this "In-Tatters" for about a year and a half. I have watched for fellow Canadians to chat with. So, this is really special, to have someone as close as Red Deer.
I hope you enjoy this site and will chat with me from time to time. You can use the Private Message site, if you like. I am in Red Deer once in a while. How fun it would be to see pictures of your work and get to know you some. I don't want to be a bother to you. But I would like to hear from you.
I usually sell my tatting at Farmer's Market in the summer. We are having a Christmas market this month at the Cow Palace in Olds, on the 24th. I also make and sell homemade soap.
You can look in my album to see most of my tatting.

Well, this is it. I can no longer be trusted to have to remember anything. Yesterday was hot, for Alberta. 80 F. That's 30 C. My husband (finally) installed the air conditioner. So, I decided to get out the old Magic Bullet and make some smoothies. I've never made them before. We live in an old trailer and my things are here and there, so as to make some space for our daughter. She's moved back in and I've made some cupboard space for her. So, her brothers room, that is vacant, has become storage for both daughter and myself. So, I merrily take a gander into the closet, searching for the blender. When, I happened to look up at some strange looking stuff on the top shelf. Daughter was beside me, as this adventure sounded interesting to her. I pointed up at said strange object and asked her if she knew what I saw. Nope. So, I pulled out one box. It was a Christmas present I had purchased for my hubby and forgot to wrap and put under the tree. Giggling, daughter and I presented the gift to hubby and wished him a Merry Christmas. Back to the closet we go, daughter still close behind. (Thought she might get lucky and get a Christmas present for herself). Hummm, what's that bag up there? Another 2 Christmas presents for hubby and a little something for daughter. We all had a good laugh and had a very nice "Christmas in July." While enjoying our newly installed air conditioner. And my very yummy smoothies.
So, if anyone teases me, I'm gonna say, I am no longer able to Christmas shop, as I'm too forgetful.

I've watched it several times and my first tries were a little messy. But you soon learn that you want to keep the ds over to the left. And you leave the first half a little loose. Then you pull the second half to tighten the first then pull the shuttle to tighten the second half.
The next row is going to be a heart. I'll show it again when I'm finished.
Here's the site for Maire Smith's instruction on the easiest way to do split chains.
But when I tried to put two together, he turned out pretty strange looking. I added a bow. Nothing like a little bling to help even the ugliest of creatures. Maybe I could start an ugly critters club, for all tatted animals that didn't turn out very cute. What do you say out there in tatland? Got any tatted, knitted or crocheted critters that you've been hiding in the back of a drawer? Cummon, lets have a look.

When Gina Brummett made this little guy a couple months ago, I liked it so much, I sent for the book. (Little did we know) It's from Pam Palmer's Tatting Treats Two. I didn't have the size #40 thread, so I used 20. I've sent for some 40. It's on sale right now, Lizbeth, at Zig Zag. Mine is not so dainty. But, he's my first try at it, so I'll have to give it another go, when I get my thread. It would make a very nice picture in a baby's room, or sewn onto a patch on a patch work baby quilt. I'd put his tail on upside down, so off that came to do again. My only beef with this pattern is that it would end with a chain just sitting in space and I wasn't told to attach it somewhere. That comes with more experience, I guess.
My bobbins are in a bobbin case that has removable panels, so my shuttles will fit and various bobbins in other sections. Also, in there are some plastic bread tags. I wrap small amounts of left over threads on them. In the background there is also an old plastic box from some sanitary wipes. I use it to hold whatever tatting I'm working on when I'm out and about. The lid snaps on nicely, so it can be put in a bag and nothing get jostled about. When it's at home, I've stored my beads and findings in it. Also, I need more than one size of needle. So, at home my little stuffed mouse holds any needle I require, eg. one for removing mistakes, another for threading to put some beads on, etc. And I keep a very pointy pair of embroidery scissors, for close snipping. I used to have a pair of scissors that were curved. But I frequently managed to snip my fingers while trying to cut threads. I seem to be somewhere between blonde and senior. he he.

I have made the adorable "Old-Fashioned Angel" that you got published in a Crafting Traditions magazine. People would like to have the pattern. I cannot give it out without your permission. So if you read this, please let us know if we can pass it on. Thank you.

Hello all my fellow tatters. Included is a very cute tat that I only have a picture of. Can someone tell me who it belongs to and supply the pattern? I do want the credit to go to the right person, but all I have is a picture. I apologize for being neglectful. I am still very new at this. I promise I will never forget to find out who the designer was right from the start. Most free patterns have the name printed right on the pattern. That's helpful, because I love to explore all the tatters sights. There has been a request (other than my own) for the pattern. And it is very lovely.
