Lowering my Expectations

Not sure what possessed me to say "Two rings a day." Honestly, I think I had a brain gremlin! So as it stands I have completed the fourth row and done two of the half circles. I'm going to have to take lots of good close-up pictures and put it together as a PDF or something for those who want the awesome tablecloth without the brain-melting of translating that from old to modern tatting language. The original pattern was printed in 1917, and I am copying from the Sanders book reprint. And now, for your viewing pleasure, I have pictures:

Here is the fourth row of circles completed. I don't like calling it the fourth row, but the book calls it that.

Here is the half circle. I'm cursing myself for not having done these while I was working on the previous row. Ah well! The pencil is pointing to a corrected join from a previous picture.

Over all, I'm proud of it. I think things will move a little faster when I am into the quadrangle section coming up. New plan: if I can do a little tatting every day, it will get done, eventually. After that, I might make another one, possibly just in white, to sell. So far, I've already finished one ball of black.

The top photo with all the circles is awesome. I like the look. That will be a very striking table cloth. I do understand going back and fixing. I usually just can't abide leaving a misjoin if I spot it and have retrotatted whole corners of rings and joins then retatted corrected. Once I had to go back twice *sigh*

Ouch! I hear you on that. I have decided that if I do finish this before I die and it becomes an heirloom, I want it to be as correct as possible given the difficulty of the pattern.

I've had to take the full photos on my back patio as my table and bar are too small to accomodate. Not to mention the natural light really lends itself to the work. I'm not sure what I'm going to do when it's 6' across. I might have to start laying out one of the flat sheets from my bedroom set to protect it from the concrete and dirt.

Wow! This is going to be amazing when you finish it! I really like the contrast with the black and white. I bet it would be pretty in sepia tones as well, a dark coffee brown and a lighter creamy brown.
