Royale Metallic Crochet Thread is TERRIBLE to tat with. The little gold filament gets in the way and causes all kinds of trouble. Trying to make a join I broke the filament and then had to use a little glue to get it to stick to the thread again. It is constantly separating from the main thread and causing a tangled mess. I will NEVER use this again to tat with. It may just end up across the road.

I can completely understand how you feel. I attempted to tat with the DMC gold metallic thread that I have in my embroidery threads. It was terrible. I don't think it handled as badly as your Royale Metallic Crochet thread, but it was no fun and the small piece did not look good.

If you crochet, I think you will be happier using it there. I have crocheted using their silver metallic crochet thread and it came out pretty nice. I made a large doily that I put under my small Christmas tree. It looks good, wasn't difficult to crochet with and has worn very well.

I have been trying to tough it out and I'm getting a little better at dealing with the gold filament and not breaking it but this thread also twists worse than anything I've ever used. The section coming from the ball is where it twists and turns on itself and now it's tangled up. I'm so close to starting all over with different thread. Maybe I will crochet something with it. I bet your doily under your tree looks really nice. I love to decorate with silver and blue at Christmas.

okay, I give up on the gold thread for tatting. I had actually adapted and was tatting with it okay but the string to the ball was sooooooooo twisted and I just couldn't get it untangled. So I snipped it off and I'm starting over with some solid lavender thread in size 10. I can't believe how much easier it is to tat with!
