*insert crazy ranting*

Okay, so I don't drink but somehow I've ended up with drunk tatting. No less than seven times I've started a project only to have a mistake before the third repeat. This is making me a little crazy. I'm going to switch to a simple one-pass repeat just to get myself back into the throw of it.

I might also take a little break and work on some carving until I can get my tatting head back on straight. Seriously, I think five Christmas Celebrations broke my brain.

Been there. Done that. Bought the T-shirt!

When I start losing it, I just slow down. I check rings before I close them to make sureI have the right DS counts, the right sized picots for their purpose (construction or decoration), and the joins are in the right place. I can open a ring with some ease (practice and mistakes make perfect!) but it's much easier to fix things BEFORE the ring is closed. I find that joins sort of have a wild dance when I can't pay full attention.

AMEN! When I get distracted or sleepy my hand keeps going, but the brain takes a holiday. Just yesterday I was tatting along and only after I went to do a lock join did I realize I had tatted a 12ds chain...as a ring. *sigh* At least we are all in good company.

Yes, repeat mistakes are a downer especially on a simple pattern. After 2, I usually take a 5 minute break, after 4, I put the shuttles down for the night. It never helps when I am tired. You'll get it back!
