: Like many of you, I pre-ordered a Pop a Bobbin through Jane's ETSY shop. It arrived Wednesday (not bad, about a week to NM from UK).
I spent last evening, after Lenten services, working on a quick bookmark from Rosemarie Peel's Basic Tatting book (I love that book for quick items). I had a bit (now, I'm hoping it is enough!) of HDT in Celery size 10.
This is my personal opinion and not carved in stone ~ so don't get too excited (which seems to be happening a lot lately!). I, for one, love the hook. It is small enough for me that i can pick up the beads that have a larger center hole. The shuttle itself is well balanced, a comfortable size. I especially like the even tension ~ this shuttle is not 'fiddly' at all in any way. It took me a big to get use to the feel of the finish that is on the shuttle, but the more I use it the better it is feeling (I'm a tactile person).
And, after the initial filling of the shuttle with thread; I found I could just use my fingers to remove and insert the plug.
I plan to order another in a contrasting wood (this one is cherry), after all the pre orders and reserve orders have been filled. I think this pop a bobbin is priced quite reasonably. I like the idea of a lighter and darker wood as I tat with two shuttles frequently and it is easy to tell #1 from #2.
I so recommend this shuttle to newbies as it's reasonably priced, small, and has good even tension. I'm sure if you are not a 'hook person' you could probably order it without a hook. I know everyone who receives their order will more than likely be pleased. Kudos to the woodworker![]()
