I read in the comments that new member wrote about how much the first tatting she had ever seen captivated her. Well, that triggered a recollection of the first tatting I ever saw and received as a gift. In the fourth grade, when I was nine years old, Pasty Davis' grandmother tatted cross bookmarks for everyone in our class. I was mystified, enchanted and totally absorbed in trying to figure it out. As I recall, the crosses had a simple ring and chain design, but it was SO fascinating. I did learn to tat when I was 11. You know, I had never made the connection between these two events.
