I don't want to screw it up because of the beads and I don't have a lot of thread so I don't really want to waste any

I did a crocheted cloth 30 years ago and use it all the time but now that I'm tatting again it doesn't seem quite appropriate. It's not grandma!! The grown granddaughters____we are a family of all girls___ have watched me tat, but hardly ever crochet.

I'm not particular about the type of pattern. It could be in rounds like a huge doily___I'm planning on a 3 to 4 foot circle (yes, I am thinking round, not square or rectangular). Or a motif which is repeated over and over and simply attached to the last one as you complete it. Then I can finish it off where I please.

Here's the crocheted dude I did. Heck, I throw it into the washer on gentle cycle with hot water and it's good to go for another year. But a tatted design would be a welcome relief from this long used classic.

I have seen Jane Eborall's motifs (http://www.e.n.e.btinternet.co.uk/Squaretriangle.pdf) which could be repeated and joined together to go larger and larger. In order to make a 4 foot circle it would take a lot of motifs, but that last several rounds on a huge doily type thing would be just as boring.

What have some of you done this large in tatting? jam

Hi all!

I am looking for some simple edging patterns, suitable for thin thread (size 80). I think it would be great if it were only rings, as I plan on doing it on spare times and I would like to avoid carrying the ball around - plus, it will be my first size 80 project and I really want to keep it simple!

My first thought went to the famous "Hen and Chicks", but I can't find a pattern to it!

Nothing labelled as "rings only" in Knots strikes my fancy. I am looking for something that is a bit elaborate, wider and more interesting than just a series of equal rings. (I think Hen and chicks would fit the bill there).

I may go for the basket edge which is just stunning... but if anyone has that simple pattern, or another suggestion for me, I would be most grateful to hear it!

Tatting Using a pinneapple pattern for flower petals.

Hi everyone!

I'm creating a hairpiece for a friend's wedding. The wedding flowers are stargazer lilies and the big catch is that she doesn't like the tatting "with all the rings and loops."

Sigh.

So we went trough a bunch of pattern books and she picked out what she likes. Luckily she does like the patterns with a lot of chains on top of chains so I thought I'd modify a pineapple design for the petals of the lilies. (For those who think I mean the fruit when I say pineapple, here's a pretty butterfly with pineapple wings: http://picasaweb.google.com/AeonSpid...59453761026754)

The catch? I don't actually have any pinneapple patterns. Does anyone have suggestions for designing pineapples or some patterns that could be modified?

Thanks!
