1st ring: 2 ds, 1 picot 7 times, 2 ds, cl.
2nd ring: 3 ds, join to last picot of 1st ring, 1 ds, 1 picot 8 times, 2 ds, cl.
3rd ring: 2 ds, join to last picot of 2nd ring, 1 ds, join it to the 7th picot of the 2nd ring, 1 ds, 1 picot 8 times, 2 ds, cl.
4th ring: 2 ds, join it to the last picot of 3rd ring, 3 ds, 1 picot, 1 ds 7 times, 1 ds, cl.
5th ring: 2 ds, join it to the last picot of 4th ring, 2 ds, 1 picot, 1 ds 3 times, cl.
6th ring: 2 ds, join to last picot of 5th ring, 1 ds, join it to the 5th picot of the preceding ring, 1 ds, 1 picot 6 times, 1 ds, join to first picot of the 1st ring, 2 ds, cl.
This completes the star pattern in centre of pine.
1st ring of pine: 2 ds, 1 picot, 1 ds 8 times, 2 ds, cl.
2nd ring: 3 ds, join to the last picot of 1st ring, 1 ds, join it to the 7th picot of 1st ring, 1 ds, 1 picot 6 times, 3 ds, cl and join to 3rd picot of centre star.
3rd ring: 3 ds, join to the last picot of 2nd ring, 1 ds, 1 picot 8 times, 2 ds, cl and join it on to the centre picot of 2nd ring in star.
4th ring: 2 ds, join to the last picot of 3rd ring, 1 ds, 1 picot 5 times, 3 ds, 1 picot, 2 ds, cl and join to 5th picot of 2nd centre ring in star.
5th ring: 2 ds, join the cotton to the last picot of 4th ring, 1 ds, 1 picot 7 times, 2 ds, cl, repeat the 5th ring twice more, then join to centre picot of 4th ring in star.
8th ring: 2 ds, join to the last picot of 7th ring, 1 picot, 1 ds 5 times, 2 ds, cl and join to centre picot of 5th ring in star.
9th ring: 2 ds, join to the last picot of 8th ring, 1 ds, 1 picot 6 times, 2 ds, cl.
Repeat the 9th ring 3 times.
13th ring: 3 ds, join the cotton to the last picot of the 12th ring, 1 ds, 1 picot 7 times, 4 ds, cl, turn the work downwards, and work the
14th ring: 2 ds, 1 picot, 3 ds, join it to the 1st picot of the 1st ring of pine, 1 ds, join to 2nd picot of first pine ring, 1 ds, 1 picot 6 times, 2 ds, cl.
15th ring: 3 ds, join to the last picot of the 13th ring, 1 ds, 1 picot 6 times, 3 ds, cl.
16th ring: 3 ds, join to the last picot of the 15th ring, 1 ds, 1 picot 4 times, 3 ds, 1 picot, 1 ds, cl.
17th ring: 1 ds, join to the last picot of the 16th ring, 1 ds, 1 picot 6 times, 2 ds, cl.
18th ring: 1 ds, join to the last picot of the 17th ring, 1 ds, 1 picot 8 times, 1 ds, cl, and repeat from commencement until the collar is the required size.
The upper part of the pines is filled in with lace stitches, as clearly shown in our illustration.
