Hourglass Archives - Ancient Fibre Craft - Nalbinding

In passing, I mentioned this when talking about how far back crafts date
on HBT the other day but couldn't think of the name. Playing catch up
    with my blog alerts...

Nalbinding, a style of Scandinavians knitting . Scraps have been found
by Archaeologists with the Peat Bog-folk and Viking ships. Once worked
    - it is a hard wearing fabric that appears to be double sided, one looks
like knitting the other like crochet. Thought this might be interesting
    to some folk...

I had a wonderful Beanie hat before I was married (20+years) Sky blue
with with Fair Isle style. And could never find out how it had been
made... Well now I know :-)

    Enjoy

Sewicked had been doing nalbinding last year. Perhaps she can provide some input on this craft...

I did a bit of this last year with a sanded down toothbrush handle. Nothing real fancy, just a country type cute little scrap toothbrush rug to go in front of the microwave dresser :)

It's tough to find the cheap toothbrushes that have the hole at the end. Found mine at one of the crappiest dollar style stores I could find haha. Then I sawed the brush end off, anded it down and melted it a little over a candle to help shape it.

Then you can have at naalbinding :)

Nålbinding is fun! I made some bags and a pair of socks a while ago. I don't use the "normal" stitches though.
