Default Does anyone have the "Learn to Tat" book and have pattern problems?

Does anyone have the "Learn to Tat" book and have problems with any of the patterns? (Particularly "Daffodil Doily")?

I have the answers and corrections if you like!

I contacted the publisher and they sent me "corrections" that exactly matched the book and after several months and more phone calls I received a new correction that wasnt correct either then after more miles of wasted thread and more phone calls I finally figured it out and sent the corrections to the publisher when she sent me the final "corrected pattern" it was even worse than the other two (rings going nowhere on the end of chains and whatnot) and even refused to acknowledge my submissions! So if anyone is struggling with this pattern, I will happily share the "correct" corrections if anyone would like them.

Its such a lovely pattern I just dont know why the editor and publisher would not want the readers to be able to complete the project.......

I have a couple as well. It would not be unreasonable to publish here the corrections you have.

The book is called "Learn to Tat" by Janette Baker published by DRG.
Its a big pattern but quite pretty. Its just too bad that the editor refuses to see and acknowledge my corrections. I went through HOURS of frustration and gads of thread trying to do this! I can however understand where the editor would "expect" that an experienced tatter would know to close and reverse work and obviously know to join the last chain but to a new tatter it could be VERY confusing and frustrating so thats why I submitted the corrections. The editor had even deleted the last chain in the first round which made NO sense at all!

So I humbly submit my corrections with the whole pattern:
Daffodil Doily by Janette Baker (Corrections by Tats)
    Rnd 1: R 3 – 3 – 3 – 3 – 3 – 3 CL/RW
    *CH 3 – 3 – 3 – 3 – 3 – 3 CL/RW
    R 3 – 3 + (to 4th picot of PR) 3 – 3 – 3 – 3 CL/RW
Rep from * 5 times. (total 7 Rings)
    7th Ring 3 – 3 + (to 4th picot of PR) 3 – 3 + (to 2nd picot of 1st Ring) 3 – 3 CL/RW
    CH 3 – 3 – 3 – 3 – 3 – 3 CL/RW
Join last CH to beginning of round. Cut/Tie/Hide ends.
    Rnd 2: *R 3 – 3 – 3 + (to 2nd picot of Chain rnd 1) 3 – 3 – 3 CL/RW
    CH 3 – 3 – 3 – 3 – 3 – 3 CL/RW
    R 3 – 3 – 3 + (to 4th picot of same Chain of rnd 1) 3 – 3 – 3 CL/RW
    CH 3 – 3 – 3 – 3 – 3 – 3 CL/RW
Rep from * total 14 Rings and Chains.
Join last CH to beginning of round. Cut/Tie/Hide ends.
    Rnd 3: *R 5 + 5 (to 4th picot of any Chain of rnd 2) CL-Do NOT Reverse
    R 9 + 9 (to 2nd picot of next Chain of rnd 2) CL/RW
    CH 4 – 4 – 4 – 4 – 4 – 4 CL/RW
Rep from * around. Join last CH to beginning of round. Cut/Tie/Hide ends.
Rnd 4: RW after EACH Ring leaving 1/8 inch unworked thread space between Rings.
    Ring A: R 3 – 3 + (to 1st picot of Chain of rnd 3) 3 – 3 CL/RW
    *Ring B: R 5 – 5 CL/RW
    Ring C: R 3 + (to picot of Ring B) 3 + (to next picot of chain) 3 – 3 CL/RW
    Ring D: Large Ring R 4 + (to picot of Ring C) 2 – 2 – 2 – 2 – 2 – 2 – 4 CL/RW
    Ring E: R 3 + (to 3rd picot of Ring D) 3 + (to next picot of Chain) 3 – 3 CL/RW
    Ring F: R 5 + (to last picot of Large Ring E) 5 CL/RW
    Ring G: R 3 + (to 3rd picot of Ring F) 3 + (to next picot of Chain) 3 – 3 CL/RW*
Rep Rings B through G around. Join last Ring to first picot of first Ring. Cut and tie.

If anyone finishes one I would love to see a pic! I have been working on it in size 80 myself and have a round and a half to go!

Thankyou, I checked & I had that book among the ones I have. So I put it with the book so anyone else who goes to use it will know about the mistake & know how to make it IF they want.

I don't have this book, but I have published with DRG before and found them to be very uncomunacative! They had one of my items for well over a year after purchasing the Copyright, then deciding NOT to publish it. They FINALLY, after much badgering from me, sent me back my original, which they are supposed to do after publication. I have also had them CHANGE the Names of some of my patterns without even consulting me first! So, this doesn't surprise me at all!

hummm out of the Blue, totally unsolicited, I received a #10 envelope with the corrected pattern; directly from the author. The address and return address were hand written. I think the designer herself went out of her way to assist tatters. Kudos to her for that!

Wow, that was awfully nice! Wish I had got one before wasting all that thread! :) How did she get your name/address? I went round the block with the Marj at DRG and got nowhere....

I perhaps did an unkind thing, but while on Amazon buying the Crochet/Hyperbolic surfaces book, it offered me the Learn to Tat book. So I posted a review for the Learn book telling buyers to beware of errors, and that the patterns made assumptions about how beginners would handle instructions that probably weren't warranted. I blamed the publisher, not the author.
Guess this posting is also my "revealing secrets" post, too.
