    Default "new" shuttle and WIP

So... the other day, I got two really, really cheap clovers at a small store I had never been to (there are only two others in my town that carry shuttles, that I know of - both prize them about three times as much as I got this one!) The "normal" prize is more or less the same I could get buying online, including the expensive shipping to Argentina. One of them is in the pic. I think it was so cheap because it had been in the store for many years, does the label style give a hint to it's date? What do you think? The material seems stiffer than the "modern" pastel color clover one I have.

I am using it in my new work in progress - can you guess what it is going to be?

It's obviously going to be something shiny! Shiny is good! I know -- you're starting your Christmas tatting now. :)

Are you mixing two different threads?
That is definitely one brand-new "vintage" clover shuttle. I don't think they make that style anymore. It definitely would be a collector's item in my box, only because it is not made anymore.

Yes Hegla, I am using one strand of anchor metallic something with some Argentine DMC no.8 perlé cotton. (which probably isn't made any more either, LOL!)

I was quite sure those shuttles had been in the store from a looooong time ago. I like the new ones better, the stiffer plastic makes it a bit uncomfortable to unwind the thread...

Soyloquesoy, it may be that the shuttle tips will give a bit more with time, so that you can wind or unwind thread a bit more comfortably. I am interested in the point. It looks like it's not as sharp as the newer Clovers. Those sharp points are a hazard in my hands. This one looks much more user friendly.

When I was learning to tat my teacher gave me my 1st shuttle and it was one of these. That was in 1990. I haven't seen them in that color anymore and I lost my precious shuttle. Does the shop has more so I can buy one?

For me it looks very old. I dont know that colour. I have many clover-shuttles. The new colours are half transparant and soft colours. We got them in Horstmar (Germany) from the Japanese ladies, who demonstrating crochet-tatting (different from needletatting). You need a needle with 2 hooks on both ends and the thread goes double through the knots. You can go on as long as your thread is. Was very funny

The lady said there was only one left, and the only reason I did not buy it is so my friend who wants to learn can get it... I will go back as soon as I have a moment!

love that style Clover....I don't have one like that either. I'll be keeping my eyes open for one like that now. Always some new trinket to be on the prowl for. Such a shame several of us don't live closer so we could all "prowl" together!
