Default Mlle. Riego "Bunch of Grapes"

As promised in the Riego-Jeans thread here you go with the pattern - one is the original German, the other one is my English translation. If you have trouble understanding it, please do notify me. Translating into a foreign language so people understand can be challenging.

Very clever! I had a glance over the English one -- I don't know about the text (because I didn't READ it) but the diagram is wonderful!

I agree with Marty, very good diagrams!! I haven't finished reading the directions (would be better to do that when I have shuttles and thread in hand), but it looks great.

Thanks so much for your work to translate this. I have this added to my "want to do list".

The German version has been test-tatted by two ladies before put to print for our member's journal. These instructions work for sure. I only hope the translation is just as good.

By the way - this is what the diagrams for the patterns in my beginners' booklet are going to look like ;) I just have to get to work on them, maybe next weekend when I'm through with test tatting all the bookmarks. Admittedly, I have good tools - the better half could get CorelDraw at a good teacher's price and there's nothing like it for drawing tatting diagrams, I think.

Thank you for sharing your translation of the grape pattern. I hope to try it today as a break from my ongoing project.

You have done an excellent job, IcePrincess. Without actually tatting it, I have read through the written pattern and compared it with the diagram. It looks to me to be quite clear. The only suggestion I have is on the diagram, right bottom of the page where you explain how to carry the thread in back of the grapes. It is written as:
The arrows show the arrows show ...
The typo is easy to make, but also easily corrected.

Thank you so much for sharing your work. All I can say is, I hope that you will consider printing your book in English as well as German.

That really IS a typo I intend to correct and upload the corrected version.

You know, before joining InTatters I never considered there might be a market for my work in English-speaking countries. I somehow assumed that native speakers at least could work the old instructions as they are given. I've been thinking about contacting Lacis to ask if they were willing to print my book in English.

This just my opinion, for what it's worth, but I think you might be able to get a lot of German patterns printed in English if you were willing to put the time into it, and if you could get copyright permission. I wish you'd consider it. No matter how many English patterns there are available, we are always wanting to see more, aren't we, especially if it is different. I'm thinking there may be some small differences in execution, like the way Jan Stawasz does things a bit differently. Good luck with trying Lacis. I hope they recognize a good thing when they see it.

    Great work.

What an interesting tit-bit, that it is the first printed mention of a chain in tatting!
