    Default Rae's Chatelaine

Rae's Chatelaine copyright 2010 by Rachael Mohler

Materials needed: thread size 20(I used Lizbeth 20 Caribbean), 2 shuttles or 2 needles, lobster claws, jump rings(optional)

    R-ring SR=Split ring Jch=Josephine chain vsp=very small picot d=double stitch

R - 5d join to base of lobster claw 5d (do not count the join as 1st half of d)
    SR - 5/5 (4 times)
SR - 4d vsp 4d/4d (intentionally lopsided as you will join to this vsp later)
    SR - 5/5 (twice)
    *Jch - 20
    SR - 5/5
Repeat from * for desired length (once it got long I would try it around my neck occasionally to make sure I had it the length I wanted it)
    R - 5 join to vsp 5
    Tie, hide & cut ends

Put jump rings through the SRs(optional) - 2 on each side and space them every other SR. Add lobster claws to any tools that you want to add such as mini hooks, picot gauge, unpicker, strivers, etc. If you did not use jump rings the lobster claws can attatch to any SR. This way you can take off or add tools as needed by hooking the lobster claw into the jump rings(or SRs) on the chatelaine. I put a chain leader on the picot gauge and hung it from the lowest point because I use it the most. I change the tools depending on the project. Works great for tatting in public because you have all your tools handy and no fear of losing them.

Rachel, what is a jump ring?
Jumps rings are little metal rings found in the jewelry making section or beading section of the craft store. You twist them open with pliers and then twist them closed the opposite way. Or you can use the ones that look like miniature key rings but those seem harder to use to me.

The ones that look like miniature key rings are called Split Rings. ;-)

Just an FYI, you can get pliers designed just for opening those split rings. They do make things much easier and the split rings are more secure than the regular jump rings...
