    Default new shuttles

These new additions to my shuttle collection arrived in today's mail. It shows the front of them and the backs of the ones that are different. Hubby bought them for me from Ebay. There was also a metal 'Boye' shuttle that has pat applied for on it. Does that mean that it is older than the ones that say pat approved 4-17-1923? Does anyone know? There was also a detach a spool shuttle that looks like the ends were soldered. Were they all soldered or was this one altered by someone?

The Boyes, I think you're right. I have one of each & the one with the "pat applied for" seems to be older. But I've been wrong before. Those are my favorites so I'm green with envy :) Actually, all of them make me green right now - CONGRATS!

The pat date is the date it was granted. Newer than than the ones that stat "Pat applied For". Both are old and a great addition to any collection. Use them and enjoy them.

Very nice, indeed. I confess to being a bit disappointed, but that's a purely selfish thing on my part. I read the title of this thread and got excited, thinking you are now well enough to start making your shuttles again. Okay, now that I know better, Congratulations on your new shuttles. I agree with Crazytatter. Your DH is definitely to be treasured.

I remember seeing those shuttles and wondering where they would end up. They weren't cheap, either! Congrats! :-)

Today he won the auction for the MOP shuttle with the scalloped edges and the flowers carved on one side. I was watching it in the other room when he came and told me he was the winner. And I received my first 2 balls of Lizbeth 80 in the mail with the package of 5 pastel clover shuttles to use them with. He ordered them from my wish list. He really is one in a million.

I tried that old 'Boye' shuttle yesterday on a bookmark and I have to say that it has the biggest bobbin of any bobbin shuttle that I have seen so far. I loaded half a ball of DMC 80 on it and there was still room to spare! Unfortunately I sent the bookmark in the mail today and didn't realize until I got home that I didn't get a picture of it. Maybe the recipient will be nice and send me a picture once she gets it. It was two of the discontinued colors-64 and 101-that I got in that huge lot from Ebay about a year ago. Shaded oranges and shaded greens.

Also I was looking at my shuttle collection and both my Detach-a-spool and Just Rite shuttles both say patent applied for. Does anyone out there know if they got the patents and if so when?

I was watching that one, too, but didn't dare bid on it. *jealous* :-P I've bid on a couple shuttles and I'm hoping I win them! :-)

eBay is actually quite depressing for me... the only shuttles I've ever bid on I didn't win. :-( Very discouraging for someone trying to start their shuttle collection!

Journey, the same thing happens to me it seems, but he always seems to win when he bids and I don't know how he does it either. Just keep trying, also watch in thrift stores, antique stores and other places like yard sales or church bazaars. They are out there it is just finding them. When I first started to collect them seems I was bidding on Ebay 4-5 times a day and losing every time. I quit going there for almost 6 months and now I just go and look, email the links to the ones I like to him, hubby does the bidding and we are both happier. I don't know it when he bids and loses and I don't have the stress of it either. Good luck with your auctions.
