I found this information here on site: http://www.intatters.com/showthread....ght=Serif+Draw
I'm going to try to check into it when I get a few extra dollars and hours!

I have never seen iMac, but I think you can run Inkscape there too.

    Thank you for the leads.
I draw all my designs by hand, but find that age is beginning to affect my fingertip control. Oh, well, such is life!!

A few decades back I was doing fancy calligraphy for certificates and cards. Now I can barely recognize my signature. Good thing there are keyboards! A good drawing program should be intuitive and let you draw things in many ways. One of those will turn out to be your favorite. I used very fancy and professional software when I was teaching computer assisted drafting. As a retiree I can't afford the software, so I'm back at square one trying to find an inexpensive but flexible program. Didn't help that I switched operating systems about the same time.

I use Sherif Draw, the free version. You can work in layers, a picture in layer 1 and then your pattern on layer 2. When you are finished, you delete layer 1 and you have a nice pattern. Like every program it needs time to work easy with the program.

I downloaded Inkscape 48.2 for my MacBook a couple of days ago. I'm using the Lion OS X operating system. My only problem was that I couldn't get the extensions menu to work and I really wanted access to that Polar grid for laying out a circular design. I discovered that the problem will be fixed with the 48.3 release, but I found a patch that has resolved the issue for now. If you are interested, here are the links to download the software and the patch:

I'm just a happy user of the software.
