Photos Pretty tools I want to share

In my album there are other pics of these tools in their fitted box, this is a close up. On the left is a thread winder, in the middle is a magnetic needle minder, on the right is a tatting shuttle and along the bottom is a scissor point protector. They are all hand made by me for the outgoing president of the Great Lakes Lace Group Inc. The needle minder is a vintage porceline transfer cameo with an edging called Trio of Rings from Workbasket March 1964. The edging is made with DMC Fil A Dentelles color 827. The thread winder is inlaid with Swarski crystal and the shuttle is inlaid with a sterling silver butterfly and Swarski crystals.

    She liked it.

That is lovely, Joy! You are not only very talented, but very thoughtful, as well! I would just keel over if I got a gift like that from someone! WOW!

If she didn't like it we would know she wasn't into lace or pretty things!

That is a wonderful set. What medium do you use? Would you be willing to tell how you make your custom trays to fit the items you make? That would be such a nice way to display shuttles. I have so many other things I would love to have in their own custom fitted spots.

Thank You all for the kind words. I just knew you would all like to see these. The Shuttle and thread winder are made of acrylic.

Joy the scissor point protector is a knitting point protector attached to the end of the string of beads. The claw clasp attaches to your scissor holes where your fingers go to cut and the little green end then slips onto the points when the scissors are not in use to keep them sharp. The one on the right uses just a loop to attach to the scissor. They also help you keep track of your scissors; in a room full of ladies that all have stork scissors yours are unique.

Tammy I have no problem telling how to make the custom trays. You use foam board, trace the item and dig out the foam inside your tracing. I used hot glue gun to glue down the velvet starting in the center of the tray and working my way out. I hot glued the foam board to a stiff artist's canvas to give it some support and covered the bottom with velvet.

    Hi JoyR,
Many thanks for your explanation re the scissor tip protector....it is a great idea...I already have the scissor holder made of beads so this will make a good extra to keep the points safe

I have made the scissor keeper/point protector.. they make great gifts and keep the points from damaging tatting or thread if they are loose in the bottom of your tote.
