Default Utah - two shops with classes

There are two shops in the Provo/Orem, Utah area offering tatting classes.

I signed up for one just to support the store and make friends.

Other classes include smocking, silk ribbon embroidery, bobbin lace, knitting, spinning, and quilting.

*boggle* so little time so many fun things!

I'm in Utah as well, but I'm only aware of one place that offers tatting classes--Heinselmann's. Which is the other place?

I've been learning tatting from Dale Pomeroy at Heindelsman's since Fall of 2011. I think he's a great teacher, I have ADD so he's very patient and inspirational with me. I've known the staff for a few years, so I consider them friends. They are reliably helpful and knowledgeable. I've visited a couple of other small yarn stores (not craft stores) and they just didn't seem as warm and cozy. This is truly a store where you can learn without shedding a tear, plus you'll have a few laughs along the way.

The other store is Stitching Corner in Orem (1700 South State). Karen Holder is teaching it and if you want to join us the class was $45 for Jan, Feb, March. But Scott (the owner) may give you a discount for the last two meetings. We'll have class on the 21st at 10am and you'll get some great 1 on 1 - FYI Karen will be teaching her tatted/beaded jewelry at IOLI convention in Salt Lake City in 2013!

ALSO there are 2 lace guilds and a tatting group in Utah. Beehive Lacers is in the SLC area. Academy Square is in Provo. http://aslacers.blogspot.com/ . The tatting group is Bonneville Tatters and I think meets in south SLC.

Just come to a meeting and we'll tech you stuff - in fact this month's class at Academy Square is tatting over buttons!

Dale is a "technical tatter" as he phrases it. He'll teach you "correct" tatting technique, that is to say what he has researched as the historical and "right" way to tat. Don't get me wrong he knows his stuff and is a nice person, but I've had some very bad experiences around him - I stopped tatting for 2 months after one experience about 3 months after I had learned to tat - so I'm very glad you learned something and enjoyed the class MissKnit.

Ooh, I'd love to take a tatting class in person! I'd drive down from Ogden for that. Does anyone know if those are shuttle classes or needle classes? I'll take shuttle classes eventually, but I really want to be secure in needle first. Thanks for any help :)

My sister lives in Clearfield, and I'm currently teaching her to tat. I would love to have you join us. Though I only make it up there about once to twice a month currently because of school. (And I do both needle and shuttle tatting.) There is also a lace guild that meets in SLC on the second Sat of every month. They are called the Beehive Lacers. You can find them online or follow the link provided in an earlier reply on this thread. I've met a couple of the Beehivers when I went to the Provo guild (a lot of them are in both guilds) and they're really nice and helpful, though it might be a little harder to get one-on-one help cause everyone's so social. So there are a few options for you.

*laugh* ya it was kind of chaotic at the last meeting, but if you really need/want one-on-one there are a number of ladies that will gladly set aside their projects and help. Me, Marie Bassett (who was doing the class last meeting) & Karen holder (she even gives out her home phone for "emergency" help).

For those of you in Ogden there is also a chapter of Bonneville Tatters that meets at the Pleasant View Library on the First Saturday of the month from 1 to 4 pm. There is technical support there and it's free. The Salt Lake chapter of the Bonneville Tatters meets at the West Valley library on the 3rd saturday of the month same time from 1 to 4.
