Hello you can get the tatting needles at any number of sites on the internet, like Handy Hands Tatting Corner, even Ebay. I would shop around to if you want to get the best price but I believe the cost is about the same no matter which site you chose.Any business that handles tatting supplies should carry the needles. Good Luck !!!!

I teach needle tatting at my local Joann's and you can buy a 2 pack of long doll needles which are perfect to use with size 10 crochet thread. Just remember to dull the tip as they're extremely sharp. I usually scrub the tip on concrete until it's dull. Any craft or sewing store should have the long doll needles.
Once you decide it's something you really like you can buy some online through Handy Hands or Tatting Corner or other sites. Maybe even email them to see if they have a distributor in your area. The three size pack usually has a bonus fourth needle for super-fine threads.

    Alternatives in a pinch:
    1. Weaving needles (Susan Bates) work for needle tatting with thick thread (size 3 or yarn)
    2. Doll needles: long neeedles, but sharp points: if you know someone with metalworking tools you might get them to snip off an end and grind it smooth. Safety first: use eye protection if you decide to try it with hand (or power) tools
    3. Tapestry needles, using the tapestry needle to make the same maneuvers as a shuttle OR you can use them to do patterns with medium to small size rings and chains if you are wrapping the double stitches over the needle

be-stitched.com is the online store I use for tatting supplies. I would always suggest checking out your local craft and sewing stores too. A lot of yarn shops will carry some tatting supplies, and it's a great way to support your local economy.

When I learned needle tatting I couldn't find any tatting needles locally, so I used long sewing needles that had a thickness approximate to the thread I was using (size 20). It works! :D:
Too much thread, so little time!
