    Default A Bracelet in Wire

I made this bracelet a long time ago and working in wire was easier in some respects. I was in a class with Lenka Suchanek. She was an amazing teacher.

Speaking of picots that hold their shape..;) Looks like lots of work weaving those cluny petals. Is it copper ? or brass? Think I'll stay away from wire. I don't want to get started collecting the tools and supplies for that, too. One of the Freeway Lace Guild members was at the last IOLI convention class on wire tatting and came back to a meeting with a whole bouquet of wired flowers.

I would have never thought to use wire to tat! Are the techniques all the same, or do you have to alter some things to tat with wire?

Beautiful job! I recognize the bobbin lace roseground stitch. I would think it's easier to bobbin lace with wire than it would be to tat with wire.

The bracelet is made in bobbin lace, a weaving technique. There is no thread in the piece at all. It is all wire and beads. I love modern enameled wire; it is now coated with polyester which makes a very smooth coating on the wire. The smaller the wire, the more it behaves like thread. Sometimes I have to ply the wire, 2, 3, 4 or more plies; depending on the size of the wire and I have some hair thin stuff that probably isn't made any more. It comes in 5 pound rolls at the surplus store. So I have a lot of it!
