The ground is from some of the earliest bobbin lace patterns we still have records of. The ground is worked as crossing plaits, so 4 "threads" crossing 4 "threads". Most of the earliest laces were based on plaits. Probably inherited from passementerie, which are decorative braids that used a lot of gold and silver. Fairly heavy.

I have done some doodles in wire in tatting, but this piece is bobbin lace.
The only thing to watch for in tatting is that the wire doesn't kink. All the motions have to be smooth and flowing.

Here are some bits I've done:

Oh, I've heard of Lenka. I saw a video of her and her work on youtube. I would love to have the opportunity to learn from her!

the wire bobbin lace looks great....
Sorry to interrupt the flow with a tatting question, but this really got me interested
I saw some posts on wire tatting and tried that, would love to get some references to that, does s o could pass on?
I'd think that the reverse Riego method would be best choice, since you avoid the flip, and to do mostly mock rings and chains...i am thinking esp. for earings....turkish tatters use thick fishing nylon, to run along the core thread to add substance....the same should work with wire? Right?

What size wire did you use for the tatted pieces?
