    Default Italian tatter

Our member Clementina has left this message in the postcard thread - if anyone here speaks Italian could you please drop her a line? We naturally welcome all languages.

I'd be more than happy to set up a section for any language - all I need is for someone to put their hand up to help look after that area which would mean periodically posting to it and making sure questions there get answered.

Mie care amiche, io condivido la vostra passione, ma purtroppo non so l inglese.
Non so come comunicheremo , ma se tra voi c'è chi parla l'italiano saṛ ben felice di parlare.
Siete comunque tutte bravissime nel tatting.
Google translation service gives me this:

My dear friends, I share your passion, but unfortunately I do not know the English.
I do not know how to communicate, but if there is among you who speaks Italian I would be happy to talk.
You are still very good at all Tatting.

    Kersti:

    Some rambling thoughts:

There are several websites for translation -- not perfect, but you can sometimes get some idea of what was said (my experience using these sites to translate German genealogical information).

Please consider listing links for translation websites that we could use to translate posts written in languages we don't understand? This would help somewhat, though not perfectly.

Video tends to bridge language by nonverbal communication, so the list of links to tatting sites would help here: possibly people who speak other languages could describe these how-to-sites in other languages so others could find them. Not sure how to approach implementation, but something might work.

I was happy to find that two Danish members met replying to one of my posts: I have yet to translate their replies, but plan to try using translation sites in a few weeks. I enjoyed seeing non-English postings on this site: I also enjoy the challenge of using non-English patterns for my tatting.

Perhaps members could be asked to list languages they knew and an indication if they were willing to help members who needed help translating some English posts -- possibly during the signup process?

There's probably better ideas out there on how to deal with Tower of Babel issues -- any other thoughts out there?

I've used http://translate.reference.com to translate messages. The site is free and has multiple languages. The site is in English but you can translate to and from any of the languages they have available. All you have to do is type your message and pick the two languages from drop down boxes.

    BlueDode,
What part of my chat with another Dane do you want a translation of ?
You can use me in stead of an online translator, lol.
It is my experience that those online translators are not that good when it comes to the Danish language.

    Dantatter / Suzanne:

Oooh...you are more cooperative in translations than my mother was in spelling! She was 3rd in our statewide spelling contest when she was in school and she did NOT tolerate being treated as a dictionary! If we had spelling problems, they were our problems, not hers -- we were instructed to use the dictionary.

Actually, I'm looking forward to checking your responses out with a couple of translators then trying to translate them myself -- I'll send you my "interpretation" and let you correct me.

Then, I plan to take some of my posts and try translating them into other languages: I can speak some French, so I'll try that first. I know acronyms, abbreviations, texting abbreviations, and emoticons won't translate.

Give me a week or two to play with this -- I'll get back with you -- thanks for your interest and volunteering to share your Danish thoughts with me!

Must admit that I really like the google translation service for that - it lets you add in a better translation if you are able to do so, which is why their's is actually quite good
